Yeah, had considered Fallout 3, but haven't played it yet. I'll get round to it at some point though. This brings up another point- do dystopias make the most engrossing environments- Wasteland, Rapture, City 17, etc...The Wasteland from Fallout 3. It's so eerily beautiful.

Rapture was good in Bioshock, I would like to live there.
Spira in FFX was pretty
and the wasteland in Fallout 3
Cyrodiil from TES IV: Oblivion. Really beautiful, I never teleport.Geo119
wow...you are either very patient, or you are not very far into it with the missions..or the Guilds anyways
but I agree, the environment on that game was great...I also liked the environment on Farcry 2 for some reason (probably cuz you're forced to get to know it with its poor fast travel capabilities)
also God of War 1 & 2 had some good environments...I can put God of War in almost any topic in this forum 8)
Like others, I have to say anywhere in Morrowind or Oblivion. Only games I can really say "wow" to seeing the environment. Gothic series was a let down, and had so much potential.

Haha of course I teleport. The scope of San Andreas was admirable. There was a good blend of regions, and 'hoods to walk around. I loved trekking long distances. However, it could be beaten by Liberty City in GTA IV. Even though it's smaller than SA, it felt more like a living, breathing world. The atmosphere of a real city was there. Random people can be found sitting on or standing against walls, while others exercise in the park, or talk on their cell phone etc. Making a pedestrian drop his/her coffee cup, and watching their facial reaction is classic stuff. :D
City 17 is definitely a beautiful world to run around. Understated at the start; with real to life buildings, sewers and rooms. Then, it evolves into a richly macabre, urban wasteland in the later levels. The visual style gets under your skin.
The abandoned base at Shadow Moses Island (MGS) feels like a second home. :D I love sneaking around every inch of that place. Revisiting it in MGS4, with the improved graphics, was like poetry.
The environments in Uncharted are also notable. Everything from the water, jungle textures, and historic architecture is gorgeous.
Silent Hill is another place that really sticks in the mind. (Even though most of it is obscured by fog.) :D
You'd like to live in Rapture?! - Meet a nice Splicer, settle down, have some little sisters, bludgeon each other to death... you know, ordinary sort of life...Rapture was good in Bioshock, I would like to live there.

Sand Andres(GTA:SA)
Hillys(Beyond Good and Evil)
Butcher Bay(Chronicles of Riddick)
USG Ishimura(Dead Space)
Halo(Halo:Combat Evolved)
Mysterious Castle(ICO)
Haven City (Jak 2)
Tallon IV(Metroid Prime)
Kanto(Pokemon Red/Blue)
Or Castlevania (that's the name of the castle, do those take place in Transylvania?)?Michael-SmithActually, they take place in Wallachia, which I think is a region in Transylvania (I could be wrong about the country).
Lands of Lore II - Huline Jungle; I think this is mainly nostalgia from me as this was one of the first games I've ever played. This environment is something I'll never forget though and the music's beautiful.
GTA 4 Liberty City - Huge city and amazingly every detail of it is rich and varied.
Fallout 3 - WHo'd of thought a giant, grey wasteland could be so interesting to roam around in.
Crysis - The most realistic in game environment I've ever seen.
Bioshock - I'd know instantly by looking at even a wall in the game that it's Bioshock. Everything about it is unique.
