Something that draws a player in with great graphics and presentation and structures the pacing to gradually test your mastery of the feature set.

Of course to get AAA sales all you need is iron sight auto-aim and explosion filled marketing campaigns:roll:

Hype, and lots of it! The game being a masterpiece also helps, but really it's mostly about the hype. See GTA IV and MGS4 for examples of how expertly designed the hype trains were to deliver meh games with perfect scores. Truly masterful hype trains on the part of Rockstar and Konami. Truly flawless. Shame about the games themselves.

There is no guide line that you follow to make a AAA game. Some games can look great and be boring Like God of War.

Well, by rating standards a 1 and a 0 make up a AAAA game.

Lol, and SMG2 doesn't have the first 2 things you mentioned. I find that quite funny :P

Anywya, gameplay and level designis obviously a major thing, and then it should be complimented by various things, such as art direction, sound etc.

Nothing can earn a perfect 10/10. Even the best games have flaws.

First step for a "AAAA" game is to bribe the reviewers. [/sarcasm] Honestly though, it varies widely depending on the genre.

The game has to be FUN!!

If it's not fun it doesn't matter how good it looks, how deep the gameplay, or how well it's reviewed, first and foremost it has to be fun.

Look at the Mega-franchises, (eg COD, Halo, Mario) at the heart of all the hype is a fun game, and thats what makes people play them.
