Some video games are bad, some average, others are great and excellent. Then there are games that are art. Video games will never have a true "pinnacle" because technology continues to progress, yet there will always be high points and defining moments that make certain games stand out above most of the competition. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was the first 3D Zelda adventure and a fun one as well. Mario games continue to produce excellent platformers. Final Fantasy 7 had a memorable cast of heroes and villains and is still a highly respected RPG. Devil May Cry and God of War were mesmerizing action games that were among the most fun to play on the PS2. Resident Evil 4 recreated a dying formula and remains one of my favorite horror shooters. The Halo games started an online competition that became a virtual sport. Gears of War set the bar for next generation games. Bethesda's Fallout 3 was a monumental RPG that I'll never grow tired of. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare breathed new life into the war genre by moving out of World War 2 and created one of the finest FPS out there. Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 captivated me like no other game.
To me, these games are some of the high points in video gaming, with no doubt works of art. Forgive me if I left out a game you treasure, which is why I ask you this question: What games do you believe are works of art?
