to me the last good Zelda game was Ocarina of time. i haven't played windwaker yet but to me the rest were just okay games, i just couldn't really get into twilight princess for some reason. thoughts?
I tried playing Twilight Princess twice, but just couldn't get into it enough. Perhaps I had too many other things to do; I'm actually going to try again this summer. Ocarina of Time is a classic, no doubt about it--that and A Link to The Past are on a whole different level.
I'm currently playing Spirit Tracks, but it isn't as good as Phantom Hourglass, at least so far.
To me, Ocarina of Time was the last really great Zelda game. Not saying that everything afterwards was bad, because they have been good, but at the time Ocarina just had that shock value to it. Being the first 3D Zelda game, and done so well, raised the bar greatly for the others.
Good one or great one? Good would be Twilight Princess. Great would be Majora's Mask. Zelda is such a series that pretty much all it's games are good, but some just stand out a little more.
I'd say MM in terms of TRULY great. WW was pretty good though. I haven't been able to play TP through again, whereas OoT I've beat that game 100 or more times. I'd just replay it over and over for the entire span of the N64 lol. WW I've replayed maybe 3 times.
This happens every gen (not aimed at you tc since you have no WW love :o ) the last Zelda game out is claimed to be trash, I spent most of last gen defending Celda while it was insulted for being too kiddy and now its got the respect it deserves everybody hates on Twilight Princess :(. TP was an amazing game and I really enjoyed every minute of it, so much so I restarted it the moment I finished my first play through. I think it has a bad name because of the fact it was so hyped and long overdue, and the fact it is so similar to OOT but for crying out loud thats what everybody asked for after Zelda WW came out :x make your minds up :P.
Twilight princess. I hated being a dog in the beggining, but after that every other part was just as good as Wind Waker. So overall not as good as WW, but still a great game. Wing Waker is my favorite though, even though OOT was probably a better game considering the time it was made.
So in other words, they're all good. I've never played a handheld one though.
They've remade Ocarina over and over now with Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess and now the upcoming Skyward Sword. Put the 3D environments away for awhile and give us a true successor to A Link to the Past.

Have you played Minish Cap for GBA? That is a true successor to A Link to the Past, right down the 16-bit graphics. I don't know if I'd say it was better than Link to the Past or not, but it's definetly close. I take it you're not a handheld gamer at all? If that is the case, and you have a Gamecube, you can experience the awesomess of Minish Cap on your Gamecube using the Gameboy Player attachment. (When I bought it, it was like $12.99 used at Gamestop).

Since the title here is last "GOOD" Zelda game, I have to go with Twilight Princess. Honestly, I couldn't get into it enough to beat it but it's still a good game. I had no beef with it, I just couldn't bring myself to finish it, though I think it has more to do with me despising the Wii and not the game. I think I have all of the Zelda games except the newest one on DS and I think they are all good. The last GREAT one though... Minish Cap.
Since it says "good" and not "great" or anything like that... I'll have to say Spirit Tracks was good.
Ocarina of Time being in my top-5 games of all time of course... Followed closely by Link to the Past.
Wind Waker was also great.
I didn't like Twilight Princess. For me the biggest turn-off was the shadow world system. I liked it in Link to the Past, but here it was just so very unappealing.
The last one I beat was wind waker, and it was easily the worst Zelda I have ever played. The one I beat before that was Zelda 2 which actually turned out to be one of my favorite games :).
The last good Zelda Games I played were Nintendo 64's Orinca of Time, And Majora's Mask. I played Legend of Zelda Wind Waker on the Game Cube. But I hated it. Have not played Zelda Twilight Princess on the Game Cube or The Wii. My favorite of all time is Snes Legend of Zelda a link to the Past.
The last Zelda game I played and really enjoyed was the Phantom Hourglass on the DS, would like to get to play Spirit Tracks at some point too. The 2 Zelda games I can play over and over again though is Ocarina of Time (N64)and Links Awakening (GB).
I've never played a home console Zelda that wasn't great and I've played them all(I am much more fond of Wind Waker than Twilight Princess). The last hand held Zelda I liked was Phantom Hour Glass(the instruments were virtually impossible for me to play on spirit tracks, but I have some issues with my lungs). After playing Red Steel 2 I am looking forward to Zelda Sky Ward Sword because motion plus make a giant difference and make waggle into actually doing what the motion is supposed to be. I have always been a big Zelda fan and nothing has stopped that yet.
I only really enjoyed Ocarina of time, TP is good enough; I can't believe anybody thinks that The 2d zeldas are good, they're a waste of time. also Phantom hourglass and Spirit tracks have awful controls.
The one I played most was probably when I rented the first one in 1988. After that, probably a tie between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess both on GameCube. Zelda 2 was ok, though I must not have been the target audience for Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask as I just did not like those much - if at all. Some games get so much attention and so many "perfect 10's" that I tend to find faults in them and/or avoid them. The same goes for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.
The last great Zelda game was of course OoT, however Windwaker is also excellent! I highly recommend it as well. As for the handhelds Links awakening is where its at.
P.S Majoras mask was good to, but pale in comparison to the rest of the series.
