That's Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils Aime speaking, or more accurately: PEER PRESSURING you to buy a 3DS. It might as well be worded like this: "What, you don't own a 3DS yet? There's something wrong with you, dude".

Is Nintendo so desperate to sell the millions unsold 3DS units they have to resort to instilling feelings of inadequacy into people (or die trying)?

Face it Nintendo: we don't want one, we will never want one and if you pressure us we will want it even less.

anyway, i still have no desire for a 3DS. it has no decent looking original games yet (nevermind a consistent library id want in any gaming system), awful battery life, and features clash like the 3D effect and the gyroscope.

My wallet is (not) ready.

Spare $170 Reginald? Besides the fact that there's still lots of games out this year, I'm strapped for cash. Not really interested in the 3D, and even though there a few good titles out, I would still wait to get one if I had the dough.

Zero interesst in one. It looks like the DS, just with s****er games, which is kind of hard to imagine.

Then again, I don't want a Vita, either. I guess I've just concluded that portable gaming kind of sucks. Or at least, it does in its current form and with the current players making hardware and games.

He is trying the Apple tactic. It worked out well for Apple, but they were a bit more subtle about it.

I owned a 3DS and finally sold it. I completely lost all interest in the system and dont care what games come out in the future...its not my future.

Whats wrong with me? Boredom, apathy and dissatisfaction. I dont think Nintendo can cure those symptoms.

Lol I think I'm the only one who liked what he said. I took it as he was more or less playing around. Not trying to be like IF YOU DONT BUY/ WANT A 3DS YOU ARE TEH FAYL.

3D on DS is a gimmick man. On something like a console or PC where it's on a big screen is much better, on a tiny screen it just seems useless

I think it has something to do with the 3D putting too much focus on the top screen which makes it more difficult to create the kind of touch based games that was a substantial part of the DS appeal.

Reggie must not be all that bright. As Nintendo (and Reggie himself) has often bragged, the DS was Nintendo's first blue ocean system (though unlike the Wii, it had a lot of quality core games) meaning that a big chunk of its fans were casual gamers lured in by its novel interface and games like Nintendogs and Brain Training. However, those people now have smartphones and tablets which boast better quality casual games (and more of them, because there are thousands of indie developers) for a fraction of the $40 Nintendo likes to charge for its casual games (1-5 bucks). Perhaps Nintendo could have interested casuals if they offered some brilliant (yet simple) new interface, but they just offered shinier graphics, and casuals (as Nintendo itself has pointed out in the past) don't care much about graphics.

I think Nintendo is well situated to take a good chunk of core portable gamers. Core gamers tend to be equally indifferent to the 3D gimmick, but the 3DS has a lot of quality games in the pipeline (I'm really impressed by what I've seen of Bravely Default). The three things that will hurt it among core gamersare Nintendo's hatred of indies (who tend to make some of the more interesting core games), the 3DS's lack of a built in second analog stick (which is a key component of many action games), and the system's lack of power (Nintendo choose to focus on 3D rather than boosting the power) which as with the lack of a 2nd analog stick, limits game design.

I don't have any use for a handheld. when I'm out of the house I'm busy doing stuff. When I'm at home I play my console. What's wrong with me for not spending $170 on something I'd never use? I dunno man, I'm just weird that way I guess.

Also, I did not say the 3DS is a pure rehash like, say, the XL, I said that casual gamers perceive it as such, as yet another slightly improved version of something they already have. The name itself doesn't help: Sony had the bright idea not to call the Vita 'PSP2', while Nintendo called it 3DS, which translates to 'YetAnotherDS' in the minds of many. Thus the relatively dismal sales.

Give me Xenoblade first and then I'll reconsider this 3DS.

I want one and I have one...lots of awesome games coming out... He's right its a really freaking awesome system..once you own it for yourself and not just look at it at a friends house or at the store...you really begin to appreciate it.

The difference with the PSP was that it's changes, save for the PSP Go, were very minute and not loudly advertised like the DS's were. When you see a PSP box on store shelves, they all look the same. You can't tell there's anything different about them just by looking. The DS on the other hand had at least three different models on sale at all times, each being radically different in some regard. So while Sony is just as guilty, technically, they aren't as bad as Nintendo was with hardware revisions.

Well Reggie, I actually enjoy games that are fun and I can get that handheld fix just fine from my PSP, so screw you. Oh yeah, and hardware fragmentation doesn't help your cause either.
