I have identified the value chain for the final price of console games, which are in the table below

Console ManufacturerDeveloper/PublisherDistributorRetailConsumer
10 20 6 1450

All numbers are in Euros, Source: Deutche Bank.

I would like to do the same with PC games to identify how they compare, however i am no Steam user so i lack knowledge in that field. So say for example, Call of Duty, Battlefield or any other multiplatform game that grace Steam, in comparison to console games, how much do they retail on Steam?

Any answer would be most appreciated

So they tend to be as equally priced as normal $60 games on consoles?

That depends on your region I guess, for me almost every single multiplatform release aside from CoD launches at either 49.99€,44,99€ or 39,99€ while their console counterparts are always between 59,99€ and 69,99€. PC only games tend to be usually cheaper as well aside from Blizzard games, and then there´s even cases where the PC version is significantly cheaper than the console versions,Sonic Generations was one of many examples,it was basically half the price of the console versions.

When you add the very frequent sales and steam daily deals the difference is obviously massive, with several AAA type games that are one or two years old tops going for 4.99€ or less,at some point last year Deus Ex HR was being sold at 2,49€,crazy stuff.

So the prices drop faster than on consoles but their launch prices tend to fall in the same region init. Interesting read, thank you for the response

Kinda, most of the AAA games are cheaper with the few small exceptions like COD

A normal AAA title is around 40-60$ usally around the low end but there are some of the bigger AAA games that hit the 60$ mark.

Indie titles are from 1$ to around 35-40$ with most being near the 10-15$ mark.

@megaspiderweb09: To be fair, many people tend to buy new release games on other sites and activate them on Steam.

For example, greenmangaming usually has 25% or more off all preorders, and combined with the standard cheaper price for PC titles, most new Steam titles end up costing me in the range of $25-40ish.

Yes, on avg that would be the difference

Tho most steam games will end up on sale within 3 months where the discount can be from 10% to 90% off for a title like Black flag the discount would be around 10-25% and sales happens all the time and are very hard to pinpoint when exactly it will come but there are discounts on games almost every week also the big titles.

For games not on sales just add $5 to $10 to the store price for older games. For new games the sane price as in the stores.

The lower grade games about about the price of a bargain bin game.

@megaspiderweb09: By the way, you can check prices on steampowered.com. You don't have to be a steam user for that. Also, Steam converts dollar prices directly into euros, so a game that costs 5 dollars on Steam costs 5 euros. Not sure if that's important for you though.

I recall the distribution for sales on the PC to be 25% to Steam and 75% to the Developer/Publisher - that's partly why games can be released at a lower cost, there are fewer people in the equation.

PC games have always been lower priced than console games (with the odd exception). Steam isn't really the differentiator here, just look on Amazon etc for PC games prices or even at retail.
