PhoenixVenom
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not really into wrestling and I recently tried a wrestling game on the PS3 and didn't really like it, but I may look into it!
i see your missing star fox 64..
i recommend monopoly 64 if your a fan of them game... imo, better than the nes, snes and wii versions.
you can get the rumble pack accessory ..i think star fox uses it.. i have it and the ruumbling is a bit overpowered.. was better implemented in gamecube controller..
KBFloYd
I've heard a lot of about Star Fox, but never really looked into the game, from what I've seen of it, it didn't look like something I would like, but now that I have the N64 I will check out some videos of it. I have Monopoly on the SNES and haven't really played it much, but it seems like it would be a great game for multi-player, so I will check it out as well. I was thinking about getting the rumble pack, I think they have some that use batteries and some that don't. I find myself wanting the controller to rumble when I hit things, but not sure if it is really worth using up a ton of batteries... Does only certain games use it? If so, I will have to look into it and see if many of the games I want will even be able to use it.
Ive never played Super Mario 64 DS but Ive heard the control is a bit off so if you really like Mario Id say getting SM64 for N64 is a good choice and its on a much bigger screen obviously. However I know the DS version has extras so its really up to you if wana replay it.
I donot suggest Yoshis Story. It has no real ending and and can be quite easy but if your up for a challenge then I guess you could get it for the "Number 4 Levels". Kinda hard to explain.
My personal picks would be:
Kirby 64 Crystal Shards
Earthworm Jim 3D (despite what you may have heard its a really good game.)
Pokemon Snap (but you already listed it)
Conkers Bad Fur Day but if you have an Xbox you should definitly get that version instead. I know graphics arnt everything but its the same game except really, really nice to look at, so its just one more reason to get the Xbox game.
wildcat2000
Thanks for all the info. I've not played Super Mario 64 on the DS that much yet, but I've always heard it was a great game. I guess if I find it for a good price I will get it, otherwise I can skip it.
I've noticed Yoshi's Story looks quite easy and I don't know what "Number 4 Levels" are, yet, but that alone makes me curious about the game and I loved Yoshi's Island as a kid, so it may still be a good choice.
I will definitely look into Kirby 64 Crystal Shards and Earthworm Jim 3D, I've not heard of either, but they both sound great and like something I would like. I do have a 360, so I will probably get Conkers Bad Fur Day on it instead, thanks for the suggestion!
i would say : nfl blitz, dr mario64,star wars episode1 racer,, star wars shadows of the empire, star wars episode 1 battle for naboo, battle zone rise of the black dogs, indiana jones and the infernal machine, the legend of zelda ocarina of time ,the legend of zeld majora`s mask, super smash brothers, qb club 99,nlps
Thanks, I will definitely look into these... I've not heard of most of these games, so that should give me several more to add!
xbox version of BFD is no where as good.
Get conkers bad fur day on 64. Youll love it.
blazinpuertoroc
Thanks, I will look into it and see what I can find... I prefer not to buy used for my newer systems and I've never seen this game in store before, so, if I find it for the N64 first, that is probably what I will get.
I know you aren't into shooting but these games are a must on the 64.
007 Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Battle Tanx
As for accesories, get the rumble pack and a memory card.
tequilasunriser
I will look into them, I've heard a lot of good things about them, especially Goldeneye. I used to play a game on the PC, I think it was Doom or something, and I liked it, so I may like some of these as well. I will get those as accessories as well, because they seem to be the most common and the memory card isa must.
In my opinion, Mario Party 3 was the best of the three, but all three are very good. Mario Party 3 has a cool dual mode where you have characters like boo the ghost, a bomb-omb, Koopa, and others by your side as partners, and you use them to attack the other player as well as to defend you from attacks. You play mini-games to pay their fees. On the same lines, I think Mario Party 1 has some of the best mini-games.
If you love platformers, then I'd recommed Mischief Makers. I really liked it as a kid and still like it now. Yoshi's Story is a good game, although I haven't played it in like five years or more. I liked it, but some might think it's too kiddie.
dog64
Thanks... I remember playing a Mario Party game but I cannot remember which one it was, but the dual mode sounds kind of familiar, so it may have been 3... I may end up getting 1 and 3 because 3 seems like the one I liked when I played it, but I also love the mini-games, so I want the one that has the best. Platformers and side-scrollers are my favorite types of games, so I will definitely look into Mischief Makers, if its a good platformer, I will probably like it.
- Donkey Kong 64
- Diddy Kong Racing
- Paper Mario (Pretty sure on this one, I hate RPGs, but I've heard this is good even if you don't like RPGs.)
- Mario Kart 64
- Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask (Not sure on this one either, I've not really played any Zelda games, except on the NES and never liked it)
- Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (Same as Majora's Mask)
- Super Smash Bros (This is another one I'm not certain on, I've never really played this type of game, but it looks a little interesting)
- Conkers Bad Fur Day
- Wave Race 64
All great choices thatI would include on my list! You've got good tastes for the N64 already. A few more I'd suggest:
- Resident Evil 2 - If you don't already own this for the PS1 or the Dreamcast, then this is a must-have! The best entry in Capcom's original Resident Evil Trilogy. Play as rookie copLeon Kennedy or Claire Redfield as you try to survive the zombie/monster outbreak in Racoon City and solve the mystery of The Umbrella Corp. involvement in the tradgedy...or experiment?
- Spider-Man - If you don't alredy have this one for the PS1 or Dreamcast, then this also a must have action game. This game is what Spider-Man: The Movie (PS2/XBox/GC) was based off of. Similar game play to that game, but based in the comic universe with more a variety of super-villains to face. Incredibly funweb-swinging and wall-crawling mechanincs.
- Doom 64 - One of the best looking console port of Doom out there. It may have come out too late in it's time, but nowadays that matters little. it looks 10x better on N64 than SNES or Sega 32X. This game made first-person shooting fans out of millions of gamers. Fight hell rising on Earth, except one twist, it's set in the future and on Mars.
As for accessories, I'd check out the GameShark for the N64. It allows you to use various cheats and enhancements on you N64 games. Much like the old Game Genies, but technically superior as it allows you to use much more codes at once, and has a database of codes it saves and you can addcodes to itas you discover new codes. You put itinto your N64 just like a regular game, then plug the game into the GameShark, just like SNES Game Genie.

Emerald_Warrior
Thanks, I will definitely look into those. I'm not sure on Resident Evil 2, I've looked into these games for the systems I already have and always skipped over them because they weren't really my style, but its definitely something I will look into. Spider-Man sounds great, I've not really watched the movies or anything like that, but I've been looking at some of the current games and they all seem like a great idea, but just don't turn out good, so this should be good. I had no idea there was a Doom game on the 64 (again, I've not spent too much time looking into games yet) but I remember playing Doom on the PC (I'm pretty sure that's what it was. I never liked FPS or any shooting game that much, but I always liked Doom, so this is definitely one I will have to look into. I've never actually owned a Gameshark or a Game Genie, so this could be very interesting as well, will definitely look into it!
mischief makers was a fun 2D side scroller on N64
krunkfu2
I've never heard of this game, but its been suggested twice, so it will definitely go on my list. I love side-scrolling games, so any good one I can find will definitley be added to my collection. Thanks!
I would like to add F-Zero X, Star Wars Episode 1 Pod Racer. Jet Force Gemeni, Killer Instinct Gold, Pilotwings 64, Duke Nukem Zero Hour, and Turok 2. Any game made by Rare is good on the N64. Most of their games have been mentioned. Blast Corps is also another one. 1080 might still hold up. Paper Mario was cool. Just make sure you have the Expansion pack for Majora's Mask, and Donkey Kong 64. Are you just collecting from anywhere? How much for these games. Everybody had Mario 64 so that game shouldn't cost you too much. There are differences between the original and DS, You only played as Mario in the original and there were only 120 stars and not 150. N64 was great despite the limited amout of games it had. The N64 only had what like 300 some odd games and in everyone's list we have given you like 40 or more. That goes to show you just how awsome the system was.
There are also some other games while not top tier are still cool. The world is not enough was nowhere near what Goldeneye was, but it was still cool. Turok 3 was nowhere near what the first 2 games were but it was still cool. Mortal Kombat 4 despite the the story endings of the N64 version was still cool.
gamenerd15
Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look into these. I've looked at some of them, i.e. F-Zero X, 1080, etc. and they looked good, but I put some of the others on my list to get first, i.e. Mario Kart and Diddy Kong over F-Zero X and Snowboard Kids over 1080... I eventually may get them, but I'm just trying to get an idea of what I want to get first.
I'm pretty sure I have the expansion pack, I just have to research it a little more first. When I bought the system, it was the same price as the others in the store, but I've gone back and they didn't have the red thing in the expansion port, so I'm not sure why mine had it and the others didn't. If I don't have it, I will get one, but I'm pretty sure I have it... The main reason I want it is for Donkey Kong 64, I love the Donkey Kong games I've played and this one looks awesome.
Right now, I'm just buying from a store near me, Play N Trade. They have pretty fair prices and the guarantee and since I really haven't bought many used games I like starting with a local store first. I will probably start getting some games from eBay down the road, but for now Play N Trade has a good selection and good prices. I'm waiting to get some more games right now because they changed specials, normally they have 50% off these games, so I'm going to wait till it comes back.
The N64 seemed like a great system and since I never had it, I thought it would be a great system to start collecting for. I love most games Nintendo makes and the N64 seemed to offer a lot of great Nintendo titles. I like that it has fewer games in the library because it will be easier to collect all the good games I want. Not to mention, having fewer good games ratherthan a lot of not so great games is a better option. From what I've played so far I love the system and what I've found out about it and the games, it seems great.
Ive heard some people say this but whats so great about the N64 version? Seriously, I dont understand. There werent any level or story changes. Ive read the multiplayer can be diffrent but Im not into multi much.
I had the N64 version. I bought it new when our local K-Mart was closing down and they clearanced alot of things but soon after the Xbox version came out so I traded it and got that instead. I had played up til the poop boss on the N64.
wildcat2000
I'll look into it and see what I can find. If they are pretty much the same game, then I will probably get it on the 360 since I don't have that many games on the 360 yet. Multi-player is nice, but its really not important to me on the 360 or N64 yet since I only have one controller for each. I will probably end up getting an N64 controller to play multi-player, but I don't really plan to get one for the 360.
1. If you have Super Mario 64 DS there's no point in getting the N64 version except for the better controls. The N64 version has 30 fewer stars, the only playable character is mario, there are much fewer special stages, and the graphics are worse. I wouldn't bother with Mario Party either. I've never been a big fan of the Mario Party series since imo if you're played one Mario Party you've played them all.
2. Get the expansion pak, definitely. Make sure it's an official one too. I remember as a kid that I tried to save some money by getting a 3rd party expansion pak and things didn't turn out well. It would also be a good idea to invest in a rumble pak unless you don't like controller vibration for whatever reason. I wouldn't worry about a memory card though. Almost all N64 games save their data to the catridge. There are a few exceptions (like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2) but games that required a memory pak in order to save data were very rare. Also note that the N64 controllers have a defect in the analog stick that causes it to come loose after awhile. As a result, finding working N64 controllers can be a bit difficult so keep that in mind.
3. Here's my game recommendations:
- OCARINA OF TIME (if you own only one N64 game, it should be OoT. It is quite possibly the best game ever made and is definitely the best game on the N64. The gameplay is also different from the 2D games, so I wouldn't let your impressions of the NES Zelda games influence your decision on getting OoT)
- Majora's Mask (I'd say get this after OoT since having played through OoT makes this game easier to understand as well as allowing you to catch references to OoT)
- Starfox 64 (unlike all the SF games released after it, this one is actually good)
- Goldeneye 007 (the best console FPS from the 32/64 bit gen)
- Paper Mario (best one in the series imo)
- Donkey Kong 64
- Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie
- Really anything else made by Rare. The N64 was their golden age.
- Kirby 64
- Super Smash Bros (but only if you have friends willing to play it with you. Otherwise I wouldn't blow more than $5-10 on it)
- Resident Evil 2 (if you haven't already played it)
- Pokemon Snap
- If you like bomberman then get Bomberman 64 and Bomberman Heroes
- Mario Kart 64
- Yoshi's Story
- Pilotwings 64 (a cutesy arcade flight sim game. Really mellow and surprisingly fun)
gameguy6700
That's what I figured with Super Mario 64, it seems like a great game, but from what I've seen/heard, they look identical. I may get it if its cheap, just to have in my collection, but I think the DS version is better.
I will check to see if what I have in my N64 is a Nintendo expansion pack, since it was already in there, I didn't bother to take it out. I didn't realize how much I liked the rumble in a controller until I didn't have it. I've always wished my portables had it, but its even worse with a regular console, so I definitely think I need to get it... Its good to know not all games require a memory card. When I got the system, I just assumed I wouldn't need one since it was cartridge based and then wouldn't you know the first game I got needed it :D I'm pretty sure I've seen some N64 controllers that were new, so I may pick a few of those up. So far, my analog stick seems okay, but it would be nice to have some backups... hopefully I can find some that match my system.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look into them. I think I will try at least one Zelda game on the system. The reason I was questioning it is because I was pretty young when I played Zelda on the NES and never could understand what I was doing or what I was supposed to do. As far as I can recall, I never made it past the very first part of the game. So, I've never went back to the series, but I've been interested in trying them.
Yoshi's story isn't good, and Conker should be a priority.
DK64 was pretty good, and Paper Mario (way better than the GC one).
Also Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask (I enjoy more majoras mask).
Perfect Dark is an outstanding FPS if you're into it, and if you like it golden eye still plays into someones mind.
.....
Nice list, and if you still play pokemon gold/silver, Pokemon Stadium 2 is a great game to play.
_TheJoker_
Thanks for the info... I have Paper Mario on the Gamecube, but never really played it, it seems like it will take a while and I've just never had the time... As far as Pokemon, I've only played Pokemon Yellow and never liked it much... I think I played a demo of Pokemon Stadium and liked it, so I may look into that.
CBFD definitly. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, pretty much what everyone else is saying.deoxysmaster1
Thanks, these are definitly moving to my priority list!

aura_enchanted
Thanks, those are a lot of games I've not heard of, so I will definitely check them out!
If your going to play shooters on N64 then you will need a controller pack except for Goldeneye.
gamenerd15
I have to get one for the one game I have because it doesn't save to the cartridge. I don't plan to get too many, if any, shooters, but then there are a few I may get eventually.
Thanks again for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it. Now I have a lot of games to look into and a lot of shopping and hopefully plenty of great gaming ahead!!!!
