I bought Kula World for the PSX a few months ago for almost $142! Even though it cost me a lot of money, it was totally worth it since I had been looking for that game for ages.
Castlevania SOTN that i bought on ebay to a high price (100 euros) fall of 2005. Closely second position Vandal Hearts cost me 70 euros. Useless to say i spent 80 euros for GH + guitar bundle in a shop.
I have GH3, but I didn't buy it, that was a present.
As far as I remember, it was the first PS2 game that I got; Gungriffon Blaze. It cost me 50 Pounds and was amazing for those days, although it was very hard for a 8/9 year old.
It really depends on what would you consider as expensive: just the amount of money you've spend on a single game, or buying a game which has highly increased from it's original value.
For example I have bought several Arcade PCBs worth over €200, yet under their price range they wouldn't really be considered as expensive.
I guess the most expensive game I've bought was Dracula X for the Turbo Duo. It cost me around US$140 + S&H back in 1998.
Super Metroid cost me $80 in 1994. I went to get it on launch day and Funcoland was charging $80. I would have went somehwere else but I had trade in credits.
In my case, it's probably my Steel Battalion set, which cost US$165 at the time I bought it. It can be acquired much more affordably now, though, much to my chagrin...then again, that's probably a signal for me to pick up a second set for my second Xbox!
I've always liked my bargins and usually avoid buying brand new games, I don't see the point anymore, I wait a month or so until they're cheaper or until a 2nd hand one is available.
My most expensive game was premier manager 1998 for 50 pounds.

Most expensive game I bought was Killer Instinct+soundtrack (SNES), which was pretty common in America, but ultra rare here (paid it about $100, thieves).
i buy a lot of super nintendo, 64, nintendo, etc, here in mexico via "Mercadolibre" (a department now of eBay), but nothing pass 20 or 30 dollars

If you have a Nintendo DS, you can get Chronotrigger for about $40. Just telling you in case. My most expensive game I bought was Jump Ultimate Stars, worth somewhat more than $42.
Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock or Rock Band... can''t remember... probably Rock Band though... nothing comes close to those 3 games when it comes to a high price. Ever.

The most expensive games I thijnk I bought are Grand Theft Auto: Trilogy (Xbox) and Heart of the Alien: Out of this World 2 (SCD). GTA was $40 at Circuit City and Heart of the Alien was about $39 on ebay. Both were brand new and sealed. Yeah, I know I'm cheap lol.

i don't know how reply you if you take a look to castlevania SOTN on ebay you see that it is not much different today than some year ago. Certainly then it was a game i wished mostly because i lost this gem when before released. i can't regret it, i think that belongs to the bottom of my current top ten. if you look my collection you see i have no many games mainly because i think life is too much short to spend overtime with games. however from games i get much fun and i play NES today too.
