Is there a game similar to GTA but without all the violence?

My little nephew loves videogames but he loves playing the GTA series for the free-roaming aspect of them. He loves driving ambulances; cop vehicles and helicopters the most.

However; I have a problem with this since he's only 9 and I've caught him shooting people and even going into the strip club. He doesn't bother with the missions but the problem comes when the cops come after him and a shootout ensures or he see's the little lips icon on the map and he goes to it and wants to explore. I know it's wrong of me to let him play it but if I don't he starts crying so I let him play it as long as he doens't end up doing all the violent stuff, but he always ends up doing all the violent stuff so I put away all my M rated games because I don't want him playing them anymore.

So I'm wondering if there is a game out there that is like GTA but without all the guns, prostitutes, blood and violence?

If not then why hasn't anyone come up with this? Just a simple city with cars, cops, ambulances, helicopters, airplanes and stuff but without all the M rated stuff.

read dead redemption is basically GTA set in the wild west, I'm imagine that would be better. Still killing and general BAness, but probobly better. Same devs, same engine, siimilar gameplay.

Burnout Paradise is as close as you can get, but you can't get out of your car.

I can't think of many sandbox titles that aren't violent, at best just lesser grades of violence, maybe just try to find a fun game that he can enjoy that isn't so mature.

You can play it on xbox 360. It's backwards compatible.

It's the only game I can think of too.

RDR has nudity and I don't think TC would be happy if his nephew saw that.

And there is also lots of blood, violence and some nudity there as well. I don't think that the TC would want his 9 year old nephew exposed to that.

Mercenaries 2. It's open world where you can pick up missions and has hundreds of vehicles like cars, tanks, helicopters, and boats. You can't kill civilians, there's not blood, and only some occasional swearing.

I'd also go with The Simpsons: Hit n Run. All the other mentioned games are either violent or don't fit the bill.

The first thing that popped into my head was Transformers: Autobots for the DS, the game is suprisingly well made and gives you a ton of vehicle forms and enviroments to explore, as well as the mandatory shootouts with the law enforcement. If you want something really safe, the Lego Island games were a lot of fun and 100% kid friendly back in the day, not sure how well they've aged by now though

It's for the PS2, but Jak II was pretty Grand Theft Auto like. And I believe it's rated Teen. Waaaaay less violence in that game. And no blood.

Toy Story 3.

I haven't played it, but I read that it has a 'Toy Box' mode, which is a free play mode that allows cooperative play (so you can play the game with your nephew). In this mode, you act as sheriff of an old west town (Woody's town), and can play as Woody, Buzz, Jessie, or Emperor Zurg (PS3 only), and you can do an array of missions or just play with the toys. For example, from the EuroGamer review: "Every building can be painted, or festooned with weird accessories. You can dress up the little people in a mind-boggling array of costumes, found dotted around the sprawling landscape in little plastic vending machine pods. Dressing them up as certain characters triggers, yes, yet more secret challenges. You can drive around in a toy car. You can chase and capture bandits. Go parachuting with the Army Men. Deliver mail. Grow giant vegetables. Throw cows down wells. Take part in school sports day."

Look into it more, and decide for yourself if it would work. I figure if your nephew happens to like Toy Story, then it's a win-win.

Test Drive Unlimited, Burnout Paradise, Midnight Club series, Simpsons Hit & Run. Midtown Madness series, Tony Hawk's American Skateland, etc., for just free roam. For running around, maybe something like Destroy All Humans, but that's still destructive.

The Simpsons: Hit n Run on last gen consoles.

Bigboi500

This. I should also point out that the game was AWESOME! There really should have been a Hit n Run 2. It really was great. Next to the GTA series it was probably my favourite open world game of last generation.

Oh and for the TC, just let him play GTA. GTA is awesome and your nephew deserves to be allowed to play awesome games. Are you telling me that when you were his age you never saw a violent movie or a movie meant for an older age? I've been playing GTA since I was a kid too. As long as your nephew isn't a complete psychopath and knows the difference between games and reality, GTA isn't going to hurt him. Just let him play those super awesome games. It's not like he's that young either. Your nephew should be mature enough to handle GTA at 9 years old.
