explore it at the cost of not saving first or return to town and its save point and continue? i would explore really, i already level up around 7 right at the start of any game.
Probably go back and save if I've made any progress since the last save. If I just saved before finding it, then I would go ahead, but it depends on what would be lost if I died.
It depends on how far I travelled to get there and what I collected on the way.
Generally I'm of the "save early, save often" school of thought. I'll take more risks in a dungeon if I know that I just recently saved, otherwise I'll spend all my time looking for the exit, and hope that I can come back later.
I can't think of the last RPG I played without save points in or near the dungeons, though.
