Ok the other day I was playing my old N64 and thought that since its over 10 years old it might be near the end of its lifespan, this is my most played console still and much more valuable than my 360. I clean my N64 of dust about once a week and generally look after it but what are some other methods that will help my N64 and the games have a long life span?

Don't play it, seriously.

There aren't really any moving parts for the N64, so it will likely last you a very long time. Look at how many Atari 2600s are still operational. If the N64 does die, it will likely be a capacitor, which can be easily changed.

Whats so bad about playing it?

Sure played the hell out of mine and I got it in 1997. I played it practically non-stop. Still works perfect :)

do they even die? if a cartridge based system ever gets screwed up it usually the power supply or the cartridge pin slot. niether of which can really be avoided or taken care of. if its its time, its its time.

I have actually never came accross one that did not work. Those cartridge based systems can last forever if not abused. The part that breaks down first is usually the jacks, but that one doesn't really have any.

I've had my N64 before i was born, still works fine, its the SCREEN CORD that's faulty. Have to shake it A LOT to get the screen to come up.

If your N64 does die, I'm sure you could find another one on eBay.

Keep it free from dust andkeep it off the ground. I wouldn't see the system dying on you anytime soon. My intellevision worked for ages, then the corrosion on the internal parts got the best of it.

i dont think n64's are even allowed to be able to break down...if that were to ever happen though, they are dirt cheap on ebay or wherever
