Basic topic; my answer is Perfect Dark 64; and not just for the 64. I mean the controls were awesome, and the guns were so awesome they put Doom to shame. The only issue was the occasional frame rate issue; but not enough to disrupt gameplay. Just plain genious game. Your opinions?

Perfect dark was awesome! For me, it would be a toss up between the halo series and 007 goldeneye.

Goldeneye 007, it didn't looked as good as many PC games of the time, nor it was really innovative, but it's superbly made, it haves a great single player campaign and an incredible multiplayer mode, and the soundtrack is also really good.

Wolfinstien 3-D, hands down, there was a different vision of 3D gaming then.

I still love the original Halo even if my like for the franchise has disappeared. Halo LAN parties were some fun times.

I really don't play FPS that much but IMO, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the greatest FPS.

Out of all the FPSes I've played, I've had the most fun with the Halo franchise but to be perfectly honest it probably isn't the best FPS ever made. I can't really pick a definitive answer to that question but I think most will agree Half-Life is probably the best.

I'm going to be unpopular when I say I think that Half Life and Half Life 2 have next to no replayabilty. They seem like a chore to play through second time around. That and the Halo series is boring. Even the multiplayer is pretty bog-standard. My favourite FPS is between either Goldeneye, which has an awesome single player campaign, or the original Unreal Tournament, which has the best online multiplayer i've ever played. I'll probably say Unreal Tournament, only because it took up more of my time.

Deus Ex. (Why did no one say that or System Shock 2 yet?) Perfect Dark does have a great arsenal, though. (In particular: the Laptop Gun. It seems like a typical assault rifle that just happens to have a disguise, but the kicker is that you can throw it in a room and it instantly becomes a sentry turret that spits off whatever rounds were left in the clip at any hostiles in there! Just make sure that they don't destroy it before you pick it back up...) Also, I don't really get the big deal about the original Half-Life...

Half-Life is a good choice but I'd definitely pick System Shock. It was originally released in 1994, but I first played it last year and can easily see that it was ahead of its time. Brilliant experience.

Bioshock, followed by Half-Life 2, followed by Doom.

Bioshock, for being the best so far.

Half-Life 2 for pushing out the boundaries. I think it's replayable, the Gravity Gun damn near makes it a new game.

Doom for infecting the entire industry, plus it's still fun to play.

No love for Return To Castle Wolfenstein? I loved that game, that's probably my favorite. Either that or Call of Duty:World At War.

I would have to say Deus Ex since it isn't like "every other shooter". It just does everything perfectly.

No it doesn't. It has plenty of flaws. What makes it stand above most first person shooters is the fact that it has so much depth and diversity, even though it doesn't do any one thing better than most other games.

I'm going to go a bit off the board, but my choice for greatest FPS of all time goes to "Blake Stone : Aliens of Gold" for the PC. This was one of the first FPS's I've ever played, and to this day I have so much fun playing the game. I've never been much of a PC gamer, but this one sticks out for me......My runners-up would be Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, Halo : CE, Medal of Honor, and Medal of Honor : Underground. I'm a huge FPS fan, but these are by far my all-time favorites so far.

"Deus Ex" or "Doom". "Deus" wasn't perfect but it was one of the most flexible in terms of how you wanted to get a level accomplished... truly balanced open-ended gameplay on that game... LOVED it.

Greatest is probably the original Half Life or Doom. My personal favorite so far however, is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Absolutely epic single-player story along with a really, really fun multi-player.

I've played first person shooters since Wolfenstein 3D first came out in the early 1990s, and I have to say that it is impossible toname a winner given the number of excellent FPS games I have played since. Therewere a lot of memorable games, but to say that any single one was or is the best ever is not a call I could possibly make.

Call Of Duty: United Offensive (PC... Expansion Pack to the original). As the GameSpot review says: it takes the intensity of the first one, and ratchets it up even higher!

Half Life or Deus Ex for single player

BF2 for multiplayer.

These are the FPS games that I had the most fun playing.

I really liked "Half-Life 2" for Xbox 360 from The Orange Box. It was one of my favorite games, and possibly a candidate for my favorite FPS. I don't have very many FPS games though, so I'll say HL2.
