Genesis: Sonic 1 vs Sonic 2 vs Sonic 3

Thinking of picking up a Genesis Sonic game on Steam, but not sure which one. Between the 3, which would I be better off getting?

Sonic 2 for me.

Sonic 2 is a decent improvement on Sonic 1. Sonic 3 has better special stages, but overall is much easier. I recommend having them ALL personally.

Each of the first three Sonic games got progressively better. So my answer is 3.

Why not play them as they were released? Grab the first (which is a fantastic game) and if you enjoy it, pick up the second and then the third.mjc

This is my suggestion, as each one gets subsequently better. But when you get to Sonic 3, play it locked onto the Sonic & Knuckles cart. That's how the game is supposed to be played, in it's entirety. Only playing Sonic 3 is like only playing half the game. And trust me, playing it as it was originially intended in this way is freaking epic, and is only sweeter if you have played the first 2 games first.

Claymation sprites? Are you sure you're not getting it mixed-up with Sonic 3D Blast?

Claymation sprites? Are you sure you're not getting it mixed-up with Sonic 3D Blast?

3 was by far the best.

Sonic 3 is the best of the series, and playing it with the Knuckles add on makes it even better, That said, I love all of Genesis Sonics and Sonic CD.

2 since it had the best level design imo.

Yeah,Sonic 3(and Sonic & Knuckles)is just better than the first two games.

Sonic 3 looks a bit prettier, and I personally enjoyed it more than sonic 2. I hardly ever play Sonic 1 because it runs too slow on my PAL console. If you can spare the cash, do yourself a favour and play them on an original Sega Genesis. The consoles can be picked up for the price of a preowned Xbox 360 game, and the Sonic games are really common and dirt cheap. There are like two MD collections,one for the PS2 released in 2006,and one for the PS3 & XBOX360 released in 2009......

Can't you just get it on the PS2?

You can set it to run on 60hz....

And i don't know about the DS Sonic collection,but it must run at 60fps.

Oh yeah.Sonic 3 is the best of the three,imo.

I'd say sonic 2 is best.

then sonic & knuckles, then 3, then the 1st.

I view the first three as more or less equal. I like the special stages in the original the best but it kind of drives me nuts there's no spin dash.

Sonic 2 was the best one.

Sonic 1 was actully my favourite one in the series, but I'd also liked Sonic and Knuckles as well

They all good games but sonic 2 is my favorite, if you can get them all cheap though buy all 3 for some old skool fun.

If they have the option go for Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

I only played Sonic 1, but I'm getting Sonic 2 on the Megadrive soon. Sonic 1 is pretty amazing, but the other ones are faster.

I love 1 and 3. 2 to me always seemed like the difficult second album of the series. Just didn't care for it for some reason.

Sonic 2

Sonic the hedgehog 2 is the best of the series. But get them all. These games are fairly inexpensive these days.
