So what do you do?

I smell the booklet. I don't know why but that smell is just amazing. Like the new car smell of video games. Anyone else do this?

Oh yes, I smell the booklet, and then rub the CD all over my body, but only after crushing the case to a powder and snorting it.

I usually never touch the instructions (not since the intervention, anyway). I just pop the game into the console.

I usually just take the cd out and put it into the console or sometimes take out the booklet first and scan through it for anything interesting.

Browse through the manual, check for a Cd-Key if it's a computer game and then the clock to see if I have time to play the game alittle.

I used to read the manuals, but I think I started to get tired of doing that sometime during the PS2 era. When I bought my DS Lite, I read the instructions for most of those games until I reached a point where a lot of the games I was getting weren't that good anymore, and it wasn't worth reading the booklets anymore.

I don't really touch the booklets for my XBox 360 games, I mean if a game has to tell me something I don't already know then that's what tutorials and in-game guides are for.

Getting back to the original question, I don't always play a new game right away when I buy it. If it is a game I am really excited about and I'm in the mood to play it, I play it, but if it's a game I have to be in the mood to play, it just goes on my game rack and stays there till I decide to play it.

I think anymore the first thing I do when I buy a game from Gamestop is check to see if the case is broken - they like to give me games with brokencases a lot, I notice.

This is me. Like the TC, I appreciate the "new game" smell after cracking the seal. Then I just about always take a look through the manual before even considering playing the game. Sometimes it's a couple of days that I haul around the manual, reading and re-reading it, before I even put the disc in the drive.

The first thing I do is smell the case. I do that with just about everything that I buy. I also smell my food before I eat it, and that includes everything. Glad I'm not the only one!

lmao!

I typically just play the game; I don't think I've ready through a single game manual, because I'd rather learn the game from actually playing it...

I first check to make sure the disc, UMD, and/or DS cart is in good shape. If it is, I keep it. If it's not, I exchange it, only if it's really bad.

I take a photo of myself holding the disc, then smell the disc, case, booklet and whatever else happens to be in there. Then I wash my DVD rom and install the game.

I flip quickly through the manual and check the controls part a little while the game finishes installing. I don't check anything else in fear of spoilers.

I buy my games used, so I could care less about smell. (it probably smells like someone's crotch anyway) So I read the manual like the good citizen I am, then I check the disc(s) for scratches. Sometime during gameplay I'll have this need to pop the disc out again to check it for scratches again, because I thought I forgot to. I'm pretty darn neurotic.

I carefully rip open the packaging, then take a good look at the cover. Then gently opening the case, I sniff up the glorious smell of "new". Then failing to resist my urges any longer, i rip out the manual from it's place and stuff my nose into it's pages, reading excitedly about this new game that I have bought. After a thorough read I'll carefully take out the CD, cursing it if it's one of those terrible case which mean that you have to really bend the CD to pull it out. Then looking at it's glorious scratchless back, I'll carefully place it into the CD tray, pick up my controller and prepare to GAME! :P

I remember when I first got FF7 I read the instruction like a dozen times. I did the same for the whole Mega Man series 1-6 for Nes. If you spend 40-50 dollars on a new game you might as well get the full ride. When I got the Earthbound players guide don't get me started.

Lol. I don't actually read the manual for how to play the game, actually. I just read it for fun. I read the features and the story and the characters and all of that stuff. I don't usually actually look at the controls.
