A lot of legacy games bring me back because of their background music and/or soundtrack. Some of my favorites include

Strider

Vectorman

Toe Jam and Earl

Sonic 2

Gain Ground.

Most of these came from the Genesis. What are some of your favorites?

A few of those do it for me, and they're pretty much all NES games:

  • Crystalis
  • Duck Tales
  • Bionic Commando
  • Mega Man 2
  • Super Mario Bros.

Journey to Silius has one of the best NES soundtracks ive ever heard, its amazing what they managed to get out of the NES sound system. the background music of Golden Axe brings alot of memories because its one of (if not the) first game I ever played. other games include Jazz Jackrabbit Aladdiin (PC version) Final Fantasy 7 Starcraft there are a few others.

Just to name a few:

  • Grandia
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
  • Rise of Nations (best RTS soundtrack ever)
  • Shadow of the Colossus

Do licensed soundtracks count too? If so, then I'll also add:

  • Burnout 3
  • GTA Vice City
  • GTA San Andreas

FF7 & FF6

Outrun (ideally the music tape that came with the Commodore 64 game tape, otherwise the Mega Drive version)

Streets of Rage

Street Fighter 2

Mario Kart 64

Lemmings (Amiga version)

Even though it's only one track, the title screen music to Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 on the Amiga deserves special mention. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQSsq7HCNHw

Theres probably a lot more but it's probably best I stop there. :P

I actually named a song after that game on myfirst solo album, I'll post a pic of the cover soon. It's got nothing to do with the game's soundtrack. It's an instrumental song. I didn't have a title, so I went for "Journey To Silius" just because I love the game and the title is kind of mysterious, if you don't know about the game.
