I sure have. I've been burned out on games for a nearly a year before. Then gradually a few interesting releases pull me back in.

Totally? No. Take a break from certain genres like FPS games? Sure. The longest was after buying Battlefield 2 and playing it into 2006. Then I took a break from FPS games until 2009 when I resumed playing FPS games starting with Crysis and Bioshock.

Those games were old news to most gamers. But, to me, they were like"Wow!" :D

Never made a clean break. I will usually take a day off here and there, but since i don't have tv at home and i'm not big on reading books, video games are typically my go-to platform for entertainment.

Yep.. I've taken a few breaks -- one that was almost 2 years long (during the PS2 period). Women, work, and partying all take priority over gaming for me.

On a week long break from gaming right now. Just not feeling it lately. I almost skipped a whole generation so yeah... I've taken some pretty decent breaks.

Sometimes, when I feel like I've played too much of the same thing, I stop playing regularly for a few months or so, but usually I get back into gaming once there's many new releases so that I can find something different.

Nope. Haven't seen the need to. I mean, it's not you'd take a break from movies or books or music, right? Don't see why videogames have to be different.

I wouldn't say I've taken a brake but there are times I don't game for a few days at a time because I'm too busy with real world stuff, which is never as fun :(

I don't play video games everyday (at least not anymore) and I feel that helps from feeling burnt out.

There has been periods of time that I went without gaming. I'm not sure if I was considering it a break, I was just either too tired or too busy to jump into them.

I am now. I hardly play games nowadays. I sure have a lot of games though, even recent releases. I just hoard them and I end up never playing them.

Yeah I've taken breaks but it has never been "official", like I've never said I'm going to take 6 months off.

If I don't feel like gaming, I don't game.

Usually lasts a few days or a couple weeks.

When I was younger I stopped gaming for about 3-4 years.

Sometimes for a couple of days after finishing a game. Normally I'll take breaks from certain genres like another poster mentioned. I'm on a break from role playing games right now.

Back in the PS2 era, I'd play a game for a few weeks and when I finished it, maybe not buy another for 6 months. Since I got my PS3 however, I play almost every day. The only exception was when I played Final Fantasy XIII for a couple of weeks. It was so mind-numbingly monotonous that I didn't feel like turning on my PS3 for two weeks afterwards. But Fallout 3 pulled me out of my funk and I've hardly missed a single day since.

My rambling on the matter... I have always been a gamer (not buying every game crazy), I buy the ones I'm interested in and have fun. The past year though games seem to have lost originality. I feel FPS's have taken over the online scene and games have in a way have been going down in quality. I've taken a break from *New* games and reverted back to playing N64/NES/Genesis/Game Gear/ etc. I'm having more fun with the classics then these new releases. The economy is bad which I think is a big factor in many getting out of games. If developers want us to dish out $40-$50-$60+ for games and accessories they need to put more effort towards the product or change up their strategy. Family's, groceries, school, and the like come first in my book and for me to get back into gaming as a pass time, I need to feel I'm getting my moneys worth If you know what I mean. As mentioned I've taken a break from games several times in the past but this past year I've nearly given it all but up, haven't touched hardly any. Wii-U, Vita, and 3ds all look like good steps into the next gen, but in my honest opinion, the software sold for these systems needs to be top quality and prices need to be put back to get my business. The 3ds just has a price drop, and the future game list has looked promising as well to me. Revelations, Super Mario 3d Land, and the new Paper Mario look as good as past games that have delivered well. I can only hope the games see a slight price drop, as competing smartphones have prices that are snatching the scene. ---My 2 cents---

I regularly take small breaks from gaming, and go to other forms of media, such as Anime, western shows, literature, or music. Keeping a cycle like this up keeps me from going insane.

I took a 4 year break, but for different reasons. The time between the Dreamcast's official death and the launch of the Xbox 360.

Since then I haven't really had breaks. Unless you call two days a break.

As a matter of fact, i started gaming again a week ago. I haven't been playing any games for the last 2 months because there was nothing interesting. That was until i sat down, opened up RDR and booted my 360. Now I CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT!

I did from about 2003 until 2007; in that time I probably got like 5 games and they were almost all on birthdays or Christmas. I think the reason I took such a long break from gaming was because I had such an amazing time enjoying the golden years of he N64, PS, and Dreamcast that what came after just seemed bad in comparison. Luckily I have the XBOX 360 to thank for getting me back into the hobby ;)

lol same here. now if only i could add friends to that cycle....yes im a loner made worse by being way across country for school that said im not sure why but when the gamecube came out i bought it(first system i bought with my own money) played smash brothers melee to utter death. then for some reason i let my friend borrow it for like 3 or 4 years.then for some unknown reason i decided i wanted it back went to his house and took it. now considering i hadnt bought a new game in that time and seeing how ridiculous my collection has gotten im a little alarmed. honestly i probably should of let him keep it oh well im too far into it now lol.

The longest break I've taken has been a seven month break. I think it was because I was playing too many rpgs back to back. It left me feeling burned out.
