Can we please have consoles that don't need to be updated all the time?

Here is my relationship with my PS4....

- Buy a game
- Turn on the console
- It needs to update
- The game needs to update
- I turn it off, buy it on Steam and I'm playing in 5 mins.

Every time I want to play a game I have to wait ages for updates, they're so slow at it too. Even the switch moans at me for updates all the time...

Consoles get less updates than pcs, and games get updates on pcs as well as consoles.

Me, turning on my PS4 once every few years to play a game:

  • Error
  • Takes an hour to 'rebuild database'
  • Updates on updates on updates
  • Download the game from slow PSN servers at 1% of my max bandwidth
  • Install games
  • Bedtime, I'll play it tomorrow

Just set your system to auto update and let it do it’s thing while you’re sleeping or not playing otherwise. Not sure why your system needs to “update all the time” that seems like hyperbole to me.

As for new games well unfortunately that’s just kind of the way it is these days with developers not wanting to delay a game so they just push out a patch at release. I don’t particularly care for that myself but that’s on the developer/publisher of the game, not a fault of the console.

You can't play these PS4 games offline? I haven't bought a single multiplayer game for my PS4, because screw MP subscriptions, especially with how rarely I turn the console on, and PS4 is a really shitty platform for MP exclusives anyway. I don't think I own a single PS4 game that requires updates.

@pyro1245: I've unplug my ps4 while on by mistake it only take about 4 mins to do that.

And that only happens when you lose power while the system is on.

Rebuild the DB? Mine was off for years, I plugged it in and it did that for a very long time. I remember because I had just bought GoW and I wanted to play it.

Just my experience, idk what else to tell you.

If anything can we have consoles that don't auto restart downloads I manually paused?

"Why is my internet slow? Oh it's because PS4 has started downloading that 70GB call of duty patch I specifically told it to not download right now. Silly me."

Sure, while Steam doesn't auto update every time you launch it... nore the games installed on it...

If you want to play offline buy offline games that does not require any launcher - something like GoG version.

Also - Windows updates, driver updates? you forgot about those...

You would think that be the case, yet every time i turn on my console, the game i want to play has a 2+ hours update to do.

Crazy.

Yeah, that's annoying. I installed Tekken 7 the other day, had to wait for 2hrs for a bloody update.

This problem can be said about DLC's:

I bought a PS4 physical copy of Tekken 7 (Paid £20)

To get the full experience, I need to buy a season pass 1, 2 and 3. All that equates to £80, including the base game.

Then don't play games if it bothers you that bad. I hardly ever have this problem. Play games more than once every three months. The people that complain about updates are those that do not use the system often. If you do not turn the system on that often, then why do you own it?

@omegamaster: You do realize that Tekken 7 came out over 3 years ago on PS4. It obviously is not going to have characters that were added to the game later. They have DLC on sale a good chunk of the time. I bought the game for $20 and got the first DLC packs for $12 combined. Tekken 7 was a full game at launch, so the added content is just a bonus.

Yeah, I love how there's no updates for Steam games, Windows and graphics cards.

@omegamaster: Unless there's a character you just HAVE to have, you dont need the DLC for the full experience. The DLC is just characters, nothing else.

Ugh, before the time of updating games, some old titles ended up completely crippled by bugs and annoyances. So many NES/SNES/Genesis stuff would have turned out to be amazing games if there was a patch available to fix some of the issues.

🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t see the difference between console games and pc games in this regard. I normally see a patch when I first install a game, but that’s it.

I’d prefer the game was actually finished on the disc, but oh well 😕. Same issues with PCs though.

@eoten: Most of the games for those systems I think the issues were of game design, being way too hard, versus an actual crippling bug.

Metroid other m and the second card fighters clash both have game breaking bugs though, and I think magical star sign does too (and countless games have just broken difficulty).

I remember with the 360 constantly having to update the console and games, which was brutal for me with my slow internet at the time. It would take hours for one update.

Updates are a way of life. Get used to it buttercup because its not going away anytime soon. anyway I don't think updates are that often that it gets annoying at least from my experience.
