Poll Blocking/parrying Vs Dodging/evading . Which one do you prefer in video games? (21 votes)
I prefer dodging/evading because it's more fun for me than blocking. And even in games like DMC 3 I didn't like blocking(Which was too hard to pull off)

Depending on the game dodging is a parry mechanic, but considering the OP referenced Devil May Cry 3 (one of my personal favorite games of all-time); I'll just go with dodging/evading for that particular series. Sword Master and Trickster was always my go-to.
And while Royal Guard is cool. It brings down the games pacing. Usually not a blocker anyway, unless it's a turtling strategy in Fighting games.
If you get your dodging time right from studying an enemies patterns_ You've made that game/ series a lot easier. Blocking is an overall safer method, but always at sacrifice.
I prefer blocking. In most games, you lose target lock if you dodgeroll, which is just annoying. So, I rather just sidestep-block.
@clefdefa: I never used shields in Dark Souls, and did very well in both PvP and PvE. Does more damage and preferred the move-sets with two-handed. Part the charm of Dex builds.
I think the issue is shields are encouraged very early-on in DkS and for many it's a safer playstyle.
However it's like assuming Monster Hunter games are block centric for always giving you the Sword and Shield as a starting weapon equip. Doesn't mean you can't try other methods of play.
In Bloodborne with the first shield being a joke, it's forcing a one track mind. Which I both found funny and a nice way of showing what the new game is about.
Bloodborne is however a much faster paced game, and intends for a more aggressive playstyle. So blocking shouldn't really be a wanted playstyle even for optional curiosity.
Yet, they both still have evading, not much different either. Seeing as you can do a similar dash from Bloodborne in DkSIII also for Dagger builds.
Most of the time in games like this I am playing stealthy or ninja or something, so I prefer to sneak and assassinate! MUAHAHA
But I guess when I am caught, I use the five D's: dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.
Although a good parry mechanic in a game with a follow-up attack is quite satisfying.
Dodging and evading, the amount of times I rolled like a crazy monkey in Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted. All my subscribers saw as well LMAO.
