Hehe, topic.

I can't decide between Megaman 2, Pokemon G/S/C (shaddap pokemon is awesomeness), and Jet Set Radio Future.

Megaman for it's mega sweet 8-bit guitar riffs. Pokemon I'm guessing is just these good old tunes that bring back memories from my childhood so it's just my opinion. JSRF for it's awesome collection of mostly electronic music, but it fits just right into the gameplay.

So, what are your favourites? (Prepares for hordes of FFVII fanboys)

Well since you have prepared for me,

FFVII by faaaar, God of War is awsome, NeverWinter Nights is quite good too, you have to give credit to the GTA games. Awsome collection of tunes and hillarious radio personalities to go with.

Personally I think the best videogame soundtrack is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I mean hey guys Koji Knodo what else can you ask for an awesome soundtrack. Maybe once that Super Smash Bros Brawl is out that maybe will be the best Soundtrack since a lot of famous musician works on it, can not wait to hear all those tracks on Sunday.

In all my years of listening to video game music, Super Mario Galaxy has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. To the cheery music of the opening intro, to the sorrowing music of Space Junk Galaxy, to the energetic music of Gusty Garden Galaxy, and to the epic, goosebump-filled music during the final showdown with Bowser, Mario Galaxy had it all. Shadow of the Colossus' errie, sometimes haunting music and Metal Gear Solid's intense, sometimes mournful music come close.

Terranigma for the snes had a wonderful soundtrack even though few people know about the game. I would love if the game got a port over to the ds. Wishful hoping but I can at least hope.

Final fantasy 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 have really good sound tracks.

Chrono trigger, xenogears, chrono cross, final fantasy tactics.

I can't decide as there are just to many games with good soundtracks like Morrowind, FF7, FF9, Halo: CE and Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders & Heroes, i seem to be the only one who likes the soundtrack for those last two games! it gets you really pumped up for the action!

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned, but I'll go with Castlevanie: SOTN for the win. Okay, maybe a tie, b/c Chrono Trigger's is pretty awesome. I don't include games like Guitar Hero, GTA, and Rock Band with licensed music because in those games the songs aren't made specifically for the game.

I really enjoyed the Twisted Metal 2 soundtrack. Each level felt unique because of the music.

GTA Vice City really helped set the mood for a game taking place in the 80's. It was one reason I enjoyed it more than San Andreas.

Duck Tales on NES did a pretty good job with the limitations of music at the time.

Oh, all your racing games have made me remember yet another awesome soundtrack.

Burnout 3 had some great tracks. EA in general puts songs from up and coming bands that aren't that popular. I don't like really like this new age of rock nessecarily, but in some games, even music that you wouldn't listen to, you actually enjoy when put gameplay together with that particular music.

all those who say ff7 should have really bad ears, how do you listen that kind of sound quality nowadays

however, Chrono Cross's soundtrack is still top-notch, thanks to technology, its released in 2000. they made Chrono Trigger musics so much better in Chrono Cross and added more magical musics, so its still the best.

also FF8's musics are great too, worth to mention.

True dat, JGR had more kinda funk-like music while JSRF was mostly about electronic tracks. Both still own, though.

I have to agree with you on chrono cross and chrono trigger those two soundtracks to me where just awesome. A true masterpiece to me they rank up to the quality of final fantasy 6. I liked the soundtrack of 8. It had some good tunes.

I bought the CD and listen to it all of the time. It's awesome!

Jet Set Radio Future has some good songs.

Beyond Good and Evil has some good stuff.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted has great songs for adrenaline, too.

Morrowind has a good soundtrack.

And Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has really memorable tracks.

Phantom Dust is pretty cool as well.

Quake, the original. Music composed by Trent Reznor, perfectly fitting for that game.

I liked the music in GTA Vice City a lot, but as someone else mentioned that's not music that was made for the game.

Funny how a lot of people mentioned JSRF, I remember hating the music in that game.

In my humble opinion final fantasy IV just becuase it was the first time Nobuo was able to work with more then just a four track midi program. He pushed the limits of his roland sc-8 (a midi sound card with over 1,000 monophonic and polyphonic melodic tones and fifty drum samples) and really emphisized the point that this game was more then a game. Before IV both Nobuo and Hironobu didn't see the series as we do today.

If I were to look beyond IV I would most definatly say Final Fantasy VII just because of the innovation in music itself! It not only compliments the incredible story and gameplay but helps create it! I don't think I would've of enjoyed that game nearly as much as I did if it wasn't for Nobuo's incredible score. If it weren't for him I don't think anyone would have assumed there was a true connection between the magnificent characters of Cloud and Aeris. I listen to VII's score alot and man, does it stand the test of time. As a musician it's more than impressive and as a gamer it's a blessing.

Not looking at any of the Final Fantasy games I'd have to say the Best Video Game Soundtrack Evar (Ha.) would most definatly be Koji Kondo's work with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It's absolutley beautiful. The fact that music plays a huge role in the game even without his score alone is a huge feat and I mean c'mon, if it weren't for that dramatic variation on the (usually joyous) lost woods theme would Saria being a sage have affected you that much?
