I put the Oracle games together and the NES ones together due to shortage of space.

Anyhow, it's ALTTP, obviously.

But personally, I liked Link's Awakening better.

It felt more "magical" to me.

Also, the Oracle games were very good too. (esp. Seasons)

The NES ones I think are a little "rough" for today's times, more difficult and more "straightforward".

ALTTP hit the nail on the head when it comes to difficulty and exploration, imo.

There was also "Four Swords Adventures" on the GC which I did not play but I find the "multi-player" aspect interesting.

I guess we could also include the CD-I games, for teh lulz...

So, which, do you feel, was the best of them all?

Gameboy Color was the best platform for Zelda. My personal favorite is Oracle of Ages. Personally, I think A Link to the Past is a bit overrated, probably because most people have just not played Minish Cap or the three Zelda games on GBC. A Link to the Past is an excellent game and actually has better controlls than the GBC games,  but it just had too many of those annoying moments where you had to use that mirror to flop between worlds at some particular point that is neither obvious nor hinted at by anything in game.

Without a shadow of a doubt, it's The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, as far as I'm concerned. There's no question about it in my mind.

A Link to the Past was so in depth compared to any other games when it was released, as far as I can remember. That's what I loved about it, you could keep playing for days and days and still have a ton of stuff to do.

GBA version of A Link to the Past. Not only was it a refined version with new content, it had an awesome multiplayer mode in Four Swords.

I always thought ALTTP, but I am not sure now.  It is either ALTTP or one of the Oracles.

Link's Awakening.

After I played LttP, it always seemed to me that nostalgia is all that holds that game up in people's minds. It's a great game, don't get me wrong, but Link's Awakening had better characters, better music, (in my opinion) a much more engaging story... and it was on the freaking Game Boy.

But, again, opinion.

Link's Awakening followed very closely by Oracle of Ages.

I find ALttP to be overhyped by many people. Great game? Aboslutely, one of the best ever. But there are better oens out there.

Link's Awakening was definitely the most charming game in the series (I haven't played any of the newer cell-shaded 3D ones though). There were all kinds of funny little nuances here and there. I played it through again a year or two ago and actually laughed out loud the first time I ran into a goomba in a dungeon. It definitely transcends the "good for a handheld game" distinction and is just great compared to anything.

Strange comparison.

I would say ALTTP was much more important game in it's time than Uncharted was...

The genres are different too.

It's not about genre so much as it was a peak, and leap, in all aspects of game design.

When I think of important games....Uncharted is not even near my top 10 list....its not even on the same planet.

Important or not, Uncharted 2 was really the first game of the current gen to really push, and be polished, all aspects of what high end game design was claimed to be in this day and age. It had great storytelling, great gameplay, cutting edge visuals, and a beautiful 7.1 lossless soundtrack all rolled into one.

I'm honestly not a huge 2D Zelda fan (got into the 3D ones first which sort of spoiled them for me), but it'd have to be A Link to the Past.

Link to the Past is the best Zelda game, but my favorite is still the original. The simplicity and charm of that game will always have a great appeal to me.

A Link to the Past easily takes it.

I use to say Link to the Past, but I played Link's Awakening a couple years ago and now I choose that one. Just so freaking charming and awesome.

I've only played Link to the Past and Adventure of Link and I'd have to go with Link to the Past.  I loved Adventure for its challenge but Link the Past was designed better in terms of its dungeons and had better music.

Charming it is, but objectively speaking, ALTTP is the better game, imo.

We're comparing a "scaled-back" handheld title to a "full-fledged" console title after all, and altho it's impressive for what Awakening managed on the limited handheld hardware, it's still more of a "off-shot".

The focus was clearly on ALTTP and it shows in terms of design, longivity, polish, ect.

I would have to say "A Link To The Past" but I may be biased as it was the first TLOZ game I ever played.
