Our best parties in the Final Fantasy can easily go well without any of the following idiots. For this list I am going to count the ten worthless and useless excuses of party members in each of their games from terrible and annoying storyline and background to having some of the worst combat abilities that in turn make us question why there are in the game and why we never use them. While there are plenty of useless members to chose from here are some rules to make picking out the worst easier, with that said here are the worst party members you don't want to have but yet have to put up with.

Rules:

  • No Temporally or Guest Characters, No NPCs and No Boss Characters
  • Only Mainline Final Fantasy Games and No Spinoff Games
  • Only one character per game

10: Vann (Final Fantasy XII)

We start the list with a main character who kind of fills in the bench warmer role, as a restless teen who wishes nothing more than to sail the skies Vann is forced into a fight with the Empire and a fight that he at times sees no interest nor realisation over anything going on around him. All of the characters in Final Fantasy XII relay on license grids and everything they learn and what they can equip is all tided to what they have unlocked on the board. However Vann is seriously just uninteresting of a Final Fantasy protagonist who has nothing of value to the story and it is often questioning why he is there in the first place aside from some backstories involving his dead brother Reks who could have filled the Protagonist boots better than him.

9: Kimahri Ronso (Final Fantasy X)

Here we have a member of the Ronso Tribe who are mighty proud warriors and Kimahri is one of few words serving as one of the guardians for Yuna. It is too bad though that Kimahri isn't that great as a party member due to his combat abilities not being all that useful because his Overdrives are Blue Magic making him more of a useless Blue Mage. His character development disappears after having only a round against him in the beginning plus also he has no defined Sphere Grid path and chances are that his stats are way below other characters by the end of the game.

8: Edward Chris von Muir (Final Fantasy IV)

Next up is the Spoony Bard from Final Fantasy IV, put aside the character development Edward's physical and magic stats are terrible, he hides whenever he takes too much damage and it takes till Level 70 for him to be somewhat useful but it takes forever to get him that far and most players would have swapped him for other characters who are more useful than him.

7: Relm Arrowny (Final Fantasy VI)

Final Fantasy VI arguably has some of the best characters that later games in the franchise today can't match. From Sabin who can Suplex a Ghost Train, Celes with that famous opera scene, Locke the Treasure Hunter and so on and they are fantastically well delivered...well okay maybe not all of them. With the massive amount of characters in Final Fantasy VI that are available there is bound to be one or two useless party members that no one uses and there is and little girl Relm is the worst of them all. Not joining the party until much late in the game, sure her magic stats are high but her other stats are terrible and keeping her alive is a chore, her Sketch Ability is a decent idea on paper that is if it would ever work which most of the time it fails because drawing a Sketch of an enemy is too hard making her all round useless.

6: Ceodore Harvey (Final Fantasy IV The After Years)

I know I said One Character per Final Fantasy game but Final Fantasy IV The After Years is a sequel to Final Fantasy IV which is why I'm allowing it. Everything about Final Fantasy IV The After Years is a complete “After Thought” from the fanfic storyline and copying and pasting everything from the original Final Fantasy IV into game design. Whenever it tries to throw something new into it its done so poor like trying to throw new characters in that are worthless. Ceodore the main character of The After Years is total wuss who acts with no confidence in himself at all, his story and character is flat and uninteresting and the After Years storyline focuses on other characters and their tales and going through the same thing that they did before rather then on Ceodore and his so called resolve. His name is also stupid, I mean he is called Ceodore and it just sounds ridiculous.

5: Gladiolus Amicitia (Final Fantasy XV)

Noctis is accompanied by his companions who honestly aren't all that helpful except for Ignis. Prompto sure is annoyingly whiny and has the lowest stats of the four but however the true honour of worst character in Final Fantasy XV goes to Gladiolus. Being the Shield for Noctis he should be able to keep Noctis safe from harm and to assist him in anyway he can but ultimately he does the opposite. Sure he is powerhouse with his massive sword but he's very slow and just stands around waiting to get hit just as much as the others but the real issue is his constant trolling and banter against Noctis. Later on in the storyline after Noctis loses his love interest and Gladiolus who should have remained a shield and kept his mouth shut instead becomes a massive jerk and takes a massive level of defiance against Noctis by not only hurting his feelings over his lost love but also Noctis' role which he knows full well what he is out to do. Plus he is a shirtless freak whose body physique would impress no one.

4: Quina Quen (Final Fantasy IX)

So Final Fantasy IX has characters that are way better than in the ones in Final Fantasy VIII and all of which have good meaningful stories, well certainly not this one. Quina Quen which also is a stupid name suddenly shows up out of nowhere and is simply a hideous face that has no meaningful impact on the story. Instead the best use you can get out of this character is devouring her enemies to gain abilities and they have to be at perfect HP for this to work which is a pain. However the real annoyance comes with her minigame where she runs around and collects frogs just to get items and also increased damage to to her attack Frog Drop but the minigame becomes tedious that you just want to forget about it.

3: Selphie Tilmitt (Final Fantasy VIII)

Let's all be honest Final Fantasy VIII doesn't have good characters and instead are either uninteresting or unlikeable or both uninteresting and unlikeable. There are characters like Squall who is just a massive twit who doesn't care about anyone or anything to Quistis having fairly useless Blue Mage abilities that hinder the group but Selphie easily stands as the worst character from FFVIII. For starters Selphie is the most annoying and forgettable of the entire cast and one of the most forgettable characters in the whole series and all she ends up doing is being a massive klutz. Sure people will point out and say that she has the ultimate game breaking move but her Limit Breaks involve using her magic spells that she has stocked up and without any proper Junctions she is a pointless party member to use. Seeing that Final Fantasy VIII was all about drawing and stocking up on magic to make you stronger while using spells weakens your characters it makes you not want to use Selphie like at all ever.

2: Cait Sith (Final Fantasy VII)

Now if you played Final Fantasy VII tell anyone in the room who's played this game about Cait Sith and ask if any player has ever used this guy in their parties. If the answer is no then that is because of worthless this scumbag really was. You get a taste of his uselessness during his first greeting from the party before many players removed him from the group immediately. He rides on a huge mascot thing, has terrible abilities including his Limit Breaks in which he has two of them. His Slots Limit Break is the worst thing ever as if you have bad luck than it is possible to have your entire party fall to their demise thanks Cait Sith ineptitude. His story and role is terrible and his fake death sequence adds no redeeming qualities because he comes back later in the next scene. If you value Final Fantasy VII so much than please avoid using this weirdo at all costs.

Dishonourable Mentions

Lulu (Final Fantasy X)

Vanille (Final Fantasy XIII)

Pennelo (Final Fantasy XII)

Harley (Final Fantasy IV The After Years)

Prompto (Final Fantasy XV)

Gau (Final Fantasy VI)

Quistis (Final Fantasy VIII)

Yuffie (Final Fantasy VII)

1: Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII)

Final Fantasy XIII has arguably the worst cast in the entire franchise and no doubt the worst of all of the characters is the main protagonist Lightning. She is instantly hate-able for a number of reasons, first up her personally and complexity is annoying to put up with and she ruins any emotional moments that the story could have had. She blames and has constant fights with everybody in the party over actions that were her own fault and also smacks anybody just for no reason. The biggest example is that her sister becomes a L'Cie and Snow who her sister has fallen in love with tries his best to help her only for Lightning to turn her anger out on Snow when it wasn't his fault. Her roles in the later alongside her attitude don't improve and she doesn't care to bond herself with her party together and doesn't care about anything or anybody not even her sister's relationship with Snow. She is the Light that blinds everything good about the series and any hopes of the series recovering making her the the number 1 worst ever Final Fantasy character ever.

Vaan although pretty bad character, is one of ur strongest party member in FF XII. I always try to ignore Vaan and put the leading man, super charming Balthier, Ashe and Basch in a party together but Vaan somehow always worm his way into the team.

The rest tho I kinda agree. Kimahri especially he probably my top cause his limit breaks is absolutely useless. Not even worth it to get all those blue magic in FFX other than platinum/100% purposes. Even Quina fares better than Kimahri sometimes.

I agree that Vaan is an annoying character when thinking about FF XII never really had in much in my party team. Always had Basch, Ashe, Balthier and Fran
