Star Fighter developed by Crystal Dynamics on 3DO

It was like a Rogue Leader only much better

The kicker was that on top of destructable environments, throughout missions you could pilot your Starfighter from inches above the ground all the way out of the atmospere high into space in real time. Way ahead of its time.

What a game

(It was later ported to the Playstation and Saturn but the ports were awful)

The only one that comes to mind. I was probably one of the few that got it for the game and not the demo of FFVIII.

LittleBigAdventure2 - Great adventure RPG type game. its called Relentless Twinsens Adventure on Gamespot for some reason.

Clive Barkers Undying - One of the best survival horror games ever.

TieFighter - The best space combat shooter ever leagues ahead of games like Rogue Squadron.

Look them up if you havent heard or played them before.

I'm going to say Chaos & Order Online for iOS. I see that people are on when I play but I never hear anything about it. It's an amazing rpg-wow style game and I love that it's portable. If people are playing, they're keeping it quiet. I think a big reason is that it's made by Gameloft, and they don't have a great track record with rpg, although they do make some pretty cool games, plus it's like $7 US. But I like it.

  1. LittleBigAdventure was amazing. I had the original, but never played the sequel. Was way ahead of its time for 3D-style gameplay.
  2. Somehow I never played Undying. Shame on me.
  3. TieFighter was way ahead of its time. I remember people going crazy about it. It had a little simulation aspect to it too, along with the action.

We seem to have been playing games about the same amount of time. I wouldnt even know where to start with a list of games that nobody of this generation has played. Too many to list, but Ill put some down.

  1. Master of Magic (PC)
  2. Colonization (PC)
  3. X-Com (PC)
  4. Master of Orion (PC)
  5. Goonies II (NES)
  6. Kid Chameleon (Genesis)
  7. Duck Tales (NES)
  8. Ikari Warriors (NES)
  9. Shining Force (Genesis)
  10. Out of this World (PC/SNES/Genesis)
  11. Flashback (PC/SNES/Genesis)
  12. Phantom Dust (Xbox)

Tokyo Xtreme Racer/Drift series. These games are so addictive, especially considering they're racers. I describe them as JRPG racers and you don't hear that around :|

Wow...people are naming a lot of mainstream games, or games with big cult followings that are well known.

Anyway...I would say these as great games that very few, even in niche circles, have played...

The Book of Unwritten Tales
Ben There, Dan That
Time Gentlemen, Please!
The Last Express
Dear Esther

..as for amazing niche clasics that few mainstream gamers have played or even know about for that matter...

Day of the Tentacle
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Clive Barker's Undying
Stacking
To the Moon
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

i never see anybody mention everyday shooter. if they do, its to mention that it was made by pretty much just one guy. i think its unfair to treat it like some development stunt, because its a damn good game in its own right. its approachable because it resembles asteroids, but there is a lot of meat to it. the music is so important to the game and the player harmonizes with it while getting combos. the visuals add another layer for interpretation, but of course it isnt a music video either. each level has a different combo system that the player discovers and those rules are part of the interpretation as well. even though the rules change in every level, i think its interesting to look at the themes that stay the same. its a good shooter too.

Resonance Of Fate, a JRPG that actually tried something new and turned out to be pretty impressive. Divinity 2, a challenging third person RPG that went unnoticed. Is was/is a great game. Harvest Moon DS Cute and Tree Of Tranquility, two excellent games that are so refreshing after so much action and violence in the video game industry. Viva Pinata, ignored by many for their bright visuals which are misleading since the games have a lot of depth and quite the challenge. Velvet Assassin, an engaging, slow paced stealth game with, shock horror, a female lead as the star. The Sims 3 on the 360, largely ignored by many for not being about guns and explosions. It's a great game and works so well on the 360. There are a lot of games that many haven't played because they aren't COD/Halo/Fifa/Gears Of War and other military FPS/TPS or general same old, same old titles.

Most Harvest Moon games. Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise - so many people ignore/discredit it because of bright visuals and a the kiddie stigma associated with it and the original. Great game though.

Saints Row 2, Saints Row The Third and Just Cause 2 are not mainstream games, they are overlooked because they do what games are meant to do, GIVE THE PLAYER A GOOD TIME. Mafia II is a missunderstood masterpiece. How is The Saboteur a mainstream game?

The Saboteur, the game didn't make it to Greatest Hits/Platinum Hits or whatever it's called on Xbox, so the game wasn't very successful in sales.

But it's a good game, it's got a funny and likeable charecter and it's like an open world GTA style game set in the 1940's Nazi occupied France, you play as a tough Irish race car drive and womanizer who seeks revenge on the Nazis after they kill your friend.

The game let's you blow up alot of stuff and features different play styles like stealth (which is so so) or pure combat ect...it also has a black and white effect that happens whenver your in a Nazi occupied territory, it shows the oppression.

Very underrated game IMO, it was very good. I would have given it an 8 or an 8.5!
