I don't think it should take a major role, if it is present. To me, the best love story in FF history was between Locke and Celes

I agree. I think Locke and Celes is the best love story because its not perfect. In VIII Squall kinda comes out of nowhere there were signs but he basically did a complete 180 personality wise. X was good but again it seemed so overdone and unrealistic. Cecil and Rosa was good just not as good as well as Zidane and Dagger.

Yah, the first 3 FF games didn't have any... But romance is a nice side dish to the story. I realy don't like love driven stories though...

FFII and III had a tiny bit of love in them, just no where near the amount the other ones had. And if it's done well, I don't mind the love theme being a little more important in a game, but of course I stillneed some action and interesting events to not make it some huge soap opera. :?

It adds a little something to the experience. It is fine for a background part of the story.

I think it adds a lot of emotion to the games, and for me makes the experience of the game feel more epic. It also adds a ton of character development, seeing as relationships are a natural part of human life.

Although like someone else stated Final Fantasy games don't necessarily require a love story to be Final Fantasy, but some of the best games in the series were so memorable due to this component.

Love was not why VII was successful. Running under your theory, FFIV should have been as successful as FFVII. Granted that it should be because it is a much better game, but that is beside the point. Love is not what makes FF FF. FF does not need love to be amazing

Yeah, I prefer it. I liked how in FFVII you wondered about it, but the story was'nt driven by it. FFVIII completely did the love story wrong, but in FFIX i thought it was nicely done. I'd rather have love in Final Fantasy than not. I've just gotten used to it I guess.

I do, I think it can add another element to a story though it'd be best if that wasn't the main focus of a FF game, that'd get a little too gushy for my tastes. Having it as a key plot element though would be very welcome in any game.

I know what I am like., and if I hyadn't played FFVII, how would I know so damn much about it?

Look, it's like this. Only the ancients can use the white materia. The white materia is hte counterbalance for hte black materia. One cannot exist without hte other. Logically, this means the properties of one would be the same or very similar to the properties of the other. If one can only be used to the ancients, then the other will be the exact same way.

There is no constant whining though.

Actually there is little to no whining at all throughout the majority of the game.

In FF7, its more like a love pentagon or sumfin cus u cn get love points 4 barret n yuffie aswell, but yeah, suppose we're talking about the main stories though...i got really suprised when i found out cid from FF8 wasn't gay(edea), but then i remember thinking well he can still be bicurious or sumfin...FF7 was gud 4 the story....

I thought the lov story in VIII was more real than in any of the others bcus ther ws always sumthin else 2 do bt thy neva split, uh oh, tht sounds emo....bt dus ne1 get my point, neva really got IX cus i found that the game ws mor fun than the story it was based around so dint really get a look in, chocobos side quest ws well gud in 9(NOT AS GUD AS IN 7, but gud none the less), though the last chocograph in the ocean ws annoyin 2 find...

I certainly wouldn't whine about it constantly like Tidus did. I would actually keep my hopes up that I may eventually go home and explore a new place while I am at it. That's what I would it. That';s what Tidus should have done

Maybe you just didn't pay attention because he did whine and he was very annoying. Why do you think he has recieved so much hatred over the years in the first place?
