The "Singapore Sling" will be replaced by a single left hand turn for this year's grand prix next month.
The corner previously consisted of three tight corners, where the drivers would take to the kerbs in order to straighten the car as much as possible. This was to ensure that there would be no high-speed accident as the building behind the circuit at that corner was close to the barrier. To compensate for this, another layer of TecPro barriers will be installed as the drivers are expected to be an extra 40 km/h faster through turn 10.
In the circuit's debut race, the Singapore Sling caught out 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen, who crashed in to the barriers; and Kamui Kobayashi also sent the front of his car facing upwards after hitting the kerbs too hard in 2011.
Resurfacing work will also take place at turns 1-3, 5 and 8, as well as Esplande Drive (the straight after the Anderson Bridge which leads in to sector 3).
