I'm glad to see another topic about this. My only option to the internet is, dial-up. If I could get broadband, I would. I think this all started with the new year. December 2006, I never had this problem. The links to download were shorter, and I was able to resume. There is two HD Video Reviews I want to download. I thought going from Plus to Total Access would help, but it didn't. I hope I can get in contact with a GameSpot editor/customer service. I should get atleast a month added to my membership. Even though I've cancelled because of this.

We'll need some more details to look into this:

- What download manager application are you using?
- How many segments is the DLM trying to download at once?
- Approximately how long (in hours) does it take between the time you click to download and the time the problem appears?
- Are you using a scheduling feature or anything else specific to your download manager that would add delay time between when you click on the GameSpot Web site and the time the problem appears?

I am using Internet download manager 5.07 beta. My download manager (IDM) is downloading the gamespot files in four segments. It happens generally when i download more than 112 megabytes. (my downloading speed is 29 kb/sec so it takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to download 112 mega) after downloading 112 mega the speed goes 0 b/s and I pause the download but when i resume it the download link changes to www.gamespot.com and i download the gamespot home page. - Are you using a scheduling feature or anything else specific to your download manager that would add delay time between when you click on the GameSpot Web site and the time the problem appears? No i just click the download icon and the download starts.

I'm in the same situation vasil_pano is in.

I'm using Internet Download Manager 5.08 Final.  It's hard to tell when this all happens.  I let the download go during the time I'm sleeping.  Ghost Recon - Advanced Warfighter HD Video Review is is 322.310 MBs.  It's going to take 16 hours and 41 minutes to download.  It's got about 25% done.  I believe someone may have called during that time.  So when I got up to resume the Video Review, it wouldn't resume.  It would either bring a download link of: http://www.gamespot.com/ or http://us.gamespot.com/.

I was able to get to 25%, but that's it. You're right, it all started this new year. :(

I too am having a similar problem but I'm not using a download manager/accelerator. I am getting slow downloads, and just like the above, I only get about 20% of the file and Firefox thinks it's done downloading so it says complete. But the file is corrupt or (in the case of HD WMV) playable, but only has the first part of whatever I'm trying to watch. Here are my details:

  • What download manager application are you using? None, I just use Firefox.
  • How many segments is the DLM trying to download at once? N/A
  • Approximately how long (in hours) does it take between the time you click to download and the time the problem appears? Well I download (on a good day) at around 600kb/sec but the file reaches 20-30%.
  • Are you using a scheduling feature or anything else specific to your download manager that would add delay time between when you click on the GameSpot Web site and the time the problem appears? N/A

I just finished downloading silverfall demo with downthemall! (firefox download manager) and cant find the file at all where I downloaded it. I used the search function but nothing came up. And I had a pretty good connection up to 600-700 kb/s # What download manager application are you using? downthemall # How many segments is the DLM trying to download at once? 5/5 # Approximately how long (in hours) does it take between the time you click to download and the time the problem appears? No problem but cant find file # Are you using a scheduling feature or anything else specific to your download manager that would add delay time between when you click on the GameSpot Web site and the time the problem appears? OK, here's a bit of an update from my end. I'm still getting super slow downloads, but I guess on the upside of things the downloads are actually finishing. Also, I tried to download the Silverfall demo from this website and it went at a snails pace of an average of 50kb/sec. After about 10 minutes I gave up and decided to test out Fileplanet, to make sure it wasn't on my end, and because I have a subscription there that hasn't expired yet I was able to pull the Silverfall down at an average of almost 700kb/sec which is what it should be.

So I know it's not my connection, and I should probably mention I'm using the GameSpot West server to download stuff. I have not tried the East server though, but I was thinking it may be slower anyways since I'm much closer to California.

EDIT: OK, so now I'm trying to download videos and they are downloading at around 15kb/sec so today is much worse.

Thank you to everyone who provided support information, as it is very helpful.  Please be assured that this situation carries a high priority.  We appreciate your patience while the technical staff investigates the download situation.

I hope all gets fixed soon. I need to see if I can get in contact with GameSpot's Customer Service. I emailed them about 2 weeks ago, somewhere around there. I've only got one reply back. I'm understanding that they have new staff. But I hope to get atleast 15 days added to my membership. The person I was talking to, added 5 days to my membership. I told her to wait until the problem is solved. She also had to resume my membership, because I cancelled it about week and a half ago.

Well, something seems to be going on. When checking out the Ghost Recon - Advanced Warfighter Video Review. My only option to download is HD Windows Media. That's what I want to download. But, the link to the HD Video Review is in .mpg format. So that's the standard Video Review. Last, there is also the long download address for the file. Maybe there will always been the long characters in the address.

I hope this gets addressed soon. My membership is wasting time. There is nothing I can do with it, only download HD video files.

This has also just happened to me.
I copied the download link from the Supreme Commander Demo download page (the Download Now!) button and pasted it into my download manager (Free Download Manager). It automatically started it, and the download went fine for about an hour and a half at 8 sections until it encountered a "server error" at 92%.

That's the log from my download manager. I've already tried to download it three times, and all of the times they get stuck on 92%. I'm currently downloading it from another website, and it seems to be doing fine. I just thought I'd report it here since other people seem to have the same problems and I guess I'm just adding to the reports. Did anyone else successfully download the Supreme Commander Singleplayer Demo?

If you are having problems

1)  What type of internet connection do you have?  Dialup/DSL/Cable/Wireless etc

2) Is your computer connected directly to the internet / modem or do you have a router (Internet gateway / firewall) in place?

3) What OS do you have?

4) Are you using Vista's or CP's  built in firewall?

1) Cable [wireless] 2) Wireless internet so i have a wireless router. all other downloads work so the router is allowing it. 3) Windows XP SP2 4) No. Norton antivirus and AVG antivirus. Both are allowing the program I am using to download the file.

1) Dialup, it's my only option to the internet.
2) I'm connected directly from the V.92 PCI modem.
3) Windows XP Home Edition SP2
4) I'm using Windows XP Firewall

This all started this year. GameSpot may have changed something with the servers, for this year.

UPDATE: We are performing various download test scenarios.

Thank you for all of your reports - keep up the posting and make sure you answer Sam's questions, please:

1.) What download manager application are you using?
2.) How many segments is the DLM trying to download at once?
3.) Approximately how long (in hours) does it take between the time you click to download and the time the problem appears?
4.) Are you using a scheduling feature or anything else specific to your download manager that would add delay time between when you click on the GameSpot Web site and the time the problem appears?

1.) Internet Download Manager 5.08
2.) 1 segment
3.) The download will take 16 hours and 27 minutes. The download will stop at about 25% of a 322.31MB HD Video Review.
4.) Using no scheduling

As for right now, Ghost Recon - Advanced Warfighter HD Video Review, is now available for download. When clicking the download link, it shows .WMV video. It was, yesterday and a couple of days before, showing .MPG format. I'm going to try downloading again. But the problem may continue. Seeing that it will take 16 hours and 30 or so minutes to download.

UPDATE: Well, it got 8% done, then stopped. When I tried to resume, it would point the download address to only http://us.gamespot.com/ . The problem is still here. But the HD Video Review links are back to normal. If only the servers would allow resume until the download is done. Then, cancel the link. I've seen servers do this.

I tried Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) & Internet Download Manager.

Both did not work and the download usually stuck at about 50% + of the total file size (On The Spot videos) and if I tried resume it gives me error and I'm back to 0 MB which is ridiculous.

I highly doubt its the OS. I didn't have this sort of problem with 1up's videos. Gamespost is the only website where I have problem using download accelerators.

Gamespot needs to check its own download servers.

I am using Internet download manager 5.07 beta. My download manager (IDM) is downloading the gamespot files in four segments sometimes in eight and sometimes in one segments. It happens generally when i download more than 112 megabytes. Problem still is there. I was downloading NBA 2K7 (Xbox 360) HD Video Review. The file is 348.66MB, only got to 8.13%, then stopped. I could't resume the download. I hope GameSpot gets this fixed.

First off, thanks Sam Parker and Sondra! :) Everything is working great now! It took me a day (with disconnects from Internet to except calls), to download NBA 2K7 HD Video Review. I was able to resume, and have a lot of time to download.

There is just one favor I ask. Could there be a possibility to add atleast a month to my membership? No lie about this, I only download HD/Hi-Res videos from GameSpot. It's been well over or close to a month, of no membership benefits for me. Sondra was nice to add, a while back, 5 days to my account. But I only wanted days/months added, once problems were solved.
