this is my second review on the game--> read on please

User Rating: 9.5 | Final Fantasy XI PC
i'd like to take back what i've said in the last review. this game really is the best mmorpg out there. make no mistake in that. if you are reading this to find out if you want to buy it, the answer is definitely if you are alright with paying $14/month + $1/character. if you want to read about the game in detail, then keep reading. obviously it isn't an action game, but that doesn't make it worse then WoW, WAR, or LotRO, or the new game AION. it's actually everything you'd expect from a final fantasy game. time based (for the most part anyways, there's no bar on the bottom that only allows you to do something when it gets full or anything like that), and somewhat very slow paced. if you have a greataxe or greatsword equiped don't expect to attack but every 10 seconds or so. anyways there's loads of equipment, lots of abilities (including spells, but when i say abilities i refer to job abilities, weapon abilities, etc.), and all the spells such as fire, blizzard, thunder, water, stone, and aero, as well as warp, escape, bind, blind, poison, bio, rasp, choke, shock, burn, drown, freeze, and drain to name a few black magics, and for white magics it can easily be assumed cure, raise, protect, shell, etc. when you start out you first pick your race, hume (human, well rounded for any job), elvaan (elf, the most powerful), tarutaru (very short and somewhat gnomish creatures that serve as powerful mages), galkan (gorilla like gargantuan that are the second most powerful and have the most vitality and health), and mithra (cat woman that are very quick and agile, but are also well suited to fit the shoes of any job). after this you choose there hair style/ head style and then choose hair color, which is not very in depth for character creation but it's not really needed since everyone is depicted by race and job. now you get to choose what in other mmorpgs is a once in a life-time choice, but in ffxi you can change at any residential area, your job. when you first start out the game you get the choice of a white mage (whm), black mage (blm), warrior (war), thief (thf), red mage (rdm), or monk (mnk). if you are a final fantasy guru then you can skip this next sentence which explains the jobs. white mages are healer mages, black mages are damaging mages, warriors are the tanks, thieves are agile trickers who are used for there good farming and crowd control, red mages are called the "jack of all trades" because they delve in white magic and black magic, as well as the art of the sword, and finally monks who are quick and powerful, able to deal out massive damage in a very short amount of time by using their body as a weapon. a unique addition to mmorpgs is the support job. once you attain level 18, then you may do a quest in selbina or mhaura in which you attain your support job, which allows you to be basically two jobs at once, with the slight punishment of having your support job only be half the level of your main job, and your support job gains no experience. at level 30 you may do 14 different quests, each of them unlocking a new job called an advanced job. these consist of the dark knight (drk), paladin (pld), summoner (smn), puppetmaster (pup), beastmaster (bst), ranger (rng), dragoon (drg), samurai (sam), ninja (nin), scholar (sch), dancer (dnc), bard (brd), blue mage (blu), and corsair (cor). these i won't give a full description on, but i will give you a site that gives a detailed description on them as well as tactics and abilities, www.ffxiclopedia.com. after choosing your job, you get to make a name for your character and choose the world (server) you want to play on. lastly, you get to choose your nation. there is windurst (tarutaru, and mithra), bastok (hume, and galka), and san d'oria (elvaan). if you choose your races' home town you obtain either a bastokan ring, windurstian ring, or a san d'orian ring. leveling in the game is rather difficult and traveling from point a to point b is sort of boring and long-winded, but easily dealt with when you get your chocobo license. to get the chocobo license you must be level 20 and then finish a quest which is obtainable in jeuno (this city is basically it's own nation that doesn't take part in the conquest. mostly inhabited by higher levels from level 30-75). once you get a chocobo license you may pay a small fee to ride for about a half hour. but you may raise your own chocobo which you can call anywhere on the field and may keep forever, as well as ride forever. you can raise several different colors of chocobos, yellow, blue, green, red, and black. the world is huge and compared to other mmorpgs the graphics are...realistic, but bad (they're good for being made in 2002). but if you want better graphics then wait for ffxiv online to come out in 2010. so for the most part i'm finished with my review, and just to get this out, i L-O-V-E this game and it's very very very very addictive and fun, not as addictive as world of warcrack but it's still addictive, but that's just cuz it's a mmorpg. i suggest you not get it on the pc unless you like to type a lot but if you have a 360 you can use the mic and get a plugin keyboard for like $20. hope to see you in the game ^^.
