FF7 in the year 2020 still holds it weight as being one of the best RPG's.

I'm reviewing Final Fantasy Vll in the year 2020, not 1997 when the game first came out. So for me, FFVll is a great RPG especially playing it on the Nintendo Switch. I can understand why people back in the day said this game was breath taking and amazing for it's time. In the year 2020 though the graphics can actually interrupt gameplay. Some of the locales look like cut and paste clip arts and it's hard to tell where your main character is to navigate. I found this frustrating at times. Ignoring the fact that I'm playing an outdated game, everything else is pretty damn awesome. The materia system where you can equip and swap any of those precious stones at anytime with any characters allows for a vast array off strategy. The story is top notch telling a grand story with in depths characters and really bringing meaning to the FFVll world. You really feel like you're making an impact as you play. Random encounters, rough menus, no descriptions of what items do when you're in battle, turn based but in real time (the action won't stop even if you need a second to review your items in battle), no explanation of what some materia does until you try it and a few other issues I had with FFVll. All of which is because the game is simply outdated. It's still a beloved classic and if I was playing this game back in 1997 I probably would of given it a straight 10 for it's time. Still, it never hurts to go back to the FF RPG roots to really appreciate where the franchise has gone.
