An extremely compelling story with interesting characters, but kept from being great by the tedious combat system.

Final Fantasy 6 is a very good game, but with some jarring flaws. It will hold your interest just on it's storyline and character development alone. However, it's kept from being a truly great game from it's tedious combat system.

The storyline is very unique, and to describe it would take too much effort. But it will grab your interest like few games can.

Where the game really shines is the character development. There are many playable characters (Over 10), and each one is given equal attention in the storyline. The characters are also very distinguishable from each other.

The glaring problem in Final Fantasy 6 lies in the combat system. If you've played a newer RPG, such as Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door, you'll notice that there are no random battles. You see the monster in front of you, and if you want to fight it, then you approach it. If you're not in the mood, then you can go around it.

But Final Fantasy 6 features random battles, which will make you pull hairs out of your head in frustration. You'll notice it when you are constantly being pestered when you're trying to explore an area or dungeon.

Often times, you will find yourself fighting the same enemies over and over again (Simultaneously). The monsters have nothing to do with the main storyline and you'll frequently find yourself doing nothing but pressing "A" to get over it quickly.

It's really, really annoying and stops Final Fantasy 6 from being one of the greats.
