Set the standard for todays RPGs.

User Rating: 9.6 | Final Fantasy VI SNES
Final Fantasy III is arguably the best RPG of the SNES/Genesis generation (the other to be argued over is Chrono Trigger). It built upon Final Fantasy II (which actually set most of the standards in RPGs we see today) by making the gameplay even better and polishing everything else. FF3 broke free of the previous archtypal storyline which FF1 and FF2 (U.S.) presented and really changed the landscape to the kind of FF we see today. While it's predecessors were largely the standard Middle Earth/Fantasy setting, FF3 really broke off and made it's own pseudo-technology/magic kind of world, with it's own wackiness. From it's opening sequence alone, you knew this was a game the style of which you hadn't seen before. The storyline was fantastic, not only plot-wise but in character development as well. Emotional attachments are really felt with everyone you come across. Music is bang-on, really nothing more to say except it's Grade A. Graphics were powerful for the SNES, using some of the more advanced transperancy effects, beautiful artwork and design. This game is a guaranteed classic, if I had only one SNES title on a desert island, this would be it, without a second thought. Do yourself a favour and find a copy of this game. It's worth your time, even against today's titles and ESPECIALLY if you're a Final Fantasy fan.
