The Premier Tactics RPG

If you are a fan of TRPG and have not played FFT you simply have to play this game. While in 2006 the game definitely shows it's age if you look past the graphics/sound, the core gameplay is unbelievably addictive and the story will keep you hooked. The basic premise is that your characters are mercenaries who start basically without level or class. Instead of getting a character who is the Fighter, Paladin, Thief (Cloud, Cecil, Locke respectively) you get to decide what that person ends up being. Does your party need a Cleric, then make the person a cleric. Does the person have alot of intelligence, make them a Mage. As the game progresses and your characters advance through your chosen classes more advanced ones emerge (Geomancer, Dragoon etc...) which add even more depth to the gameplay. Furthermore, once a character maxes out a job (the games name for classes) you keep the abilities of that job and can then begin to master another job. This allows for interesting combinations like a Dragoon-Mage. The story is also amazing for a TRPG, it involves political intrigue and adult themes that go beyond the childish looking graphics. My only gameplay gripes is that once you being to master multiple classes the game becomes a bit easy and one of the characters ( T.G. Cid) is broken. Once you acquire him the game could basically be beaten with just this one member. Nonetheless I strongly recommend this game to anyone who likes tactical or role-playing games. If you haven't played one yet this is the BEST one to start with.
