Before I get into the review of 2006 FIFA World Cup I will tell what to expect in my reviews. I used to write long and very detailed reviews and I had about 100 of them until they were all destroyed so know what I do is write a short paragraph on what I think of the Gameplay, Graphics, Sound and Value of the game which is then followed by a short conclusion.

review of 2006 FIFA WORLD CUP for the playstation 2

Gameplay - There are plenty of Gameplay options in 2006 FIFA World Cup including the World Cup itself in which you go through the qualifiying stages with your team of choice, you can play Global Challange mode which allows you to take control of a match and change the outcome (eg. France vs Croatia 1998, France won but your mission is to take control of Croatia and win the match from 2-1 down). There is also the Play Now mode which is just a friendly and there is Lounge Mode which is similar to FIFA 06 in which you and a few friends play against each other and lounge mode can keep track of standings and can award Cheap Shots to you if you win or you constantly lose. The Gameplay in 2006 FIFA World Cup is very impressive and another great effort by EA Sports. I also get the feeling that the Gameplay is a bit more Pro Evolution Soccer style which is not really a good thing.

Graphics - The Cut-Scenes in 2006 FIFA World Cup are very good and so are the Replays. FIFA 06 had very poor player animation but 2006 FIFA World Cup player animations look very life like and very impressive. There are occasional drops in the Frame Rate which is a major problem for some but I have no problem with it and it shouldn't in anyway make you enjoy the game any less.

Sound - FIFA games often have interesting and weird soundtracks that are actually fit into the game very well but I find that the songs in 2006 FIFA World Cup are very annoying and basically suck. But of course that isn't what the sound is all about because what matters is the sound when you are playing a match. The Crowd reactions are very well done and sound very real and they chant at the right times and boo at the right times. The commentary is done very well as always and is probably the best from the FIFA Series in a long time.

Value - It is well worth your money. Not as many Gameplay options as FIFA 06 because this is only the World Cup but it is still a decent buy that any soccer fans should check out and even non soccer fans should give this game a try.

Conclusion - It does very well capture the essence of the spectacle that is the World Cup. With over 100 international teams this is a must buy for any soccer fan.
