Good gameplay, Poor GFX's (pc version)

Im not a hardcore football game player and had got a little tired of the simulation style 'pro evo / winning 11 series' as it had for me become a bit stale and i must admit i found it tricky and frustrating on default level, or just dumb A.I in easy mode. So i thought i'd try out FiFa 08

the FIFA series used to be personal choice up until about 3 years ago when i found it hadn't evolved enough and had become just a bit too predictable and had a horrible un-natural feel to it due to crap ball physics especially when the ball would sometimes mysteriously float towards a players foot moments before striking, it was like the ball was part of the player animation and not really acting independantly.

That is why i changed to pro evo, because say what you like about it but you have to admit the ball physics were much better. This actually made it harder to play as timings were much more important when crossing the ball in from the wing and trying to volley it into goal, and sometimes you could lose the ball simply by turning too sharply.

Anyhow im glad to report that my venture back to fifa is in my opinion the right choice. The gameplay is sooo much better than back then. The A.I. is much better, infact if anything just a little too hard at times. The ball reacts realisticly to the players limbs. The fully licenced teams make all the difference to me as i dont follow football much and im not up to desyphering who is supposed to be who in W.E.

The only gripe i have with this game is that the graphics in the pc version seem to be much worse than the xbox360 version. I have a 8800GTX in my pc and therefore have everything maxed out on my widescreen 14400x900 display but to me it looks like the game is initially rendered in low res then blown up to fit the screen. The replays are particularly poor as some weird filter is added that makes it look even more blurred and darker. Not sure what EA were trying to acheive but they failed with this strange effect, I sometimes wonder if its a driver problem or if its a bug in the game but something tells me EA put it there on purpose.

Anyway i didnt get the game soley for the graphics so i am willing to let this go for now but i do hope the next edition in the series will boast some truely next gen GFX

Anyway if your getting a little tired of winning 11 then give this a try as its not that much different anymore yet the presentation is handled better in my opinion, oh and the commentry is better too (UK version)
