One of my favourite games of all time but one that nobody seems to have ever heard of.

User Rating: 9.5 | F.E.A.R. PC
It may be just me but when I talk to my friends about any games that we have played all the same ones come up from them. Call of Duty, Halo, Morrowind, Half Life and the list goes on. However, there is one game that has always fascinated me due to the fantastic game play and also the brilliant story line that goes along with it. I remember when F.E.A.R came out for the first time and it was given to me as a birthday present from my parents. Whilst the first problem I had when I installed it was the game wanted to update (after the long installation process) and then the update didn't let the game work so uninstalling and re installing was a big time chunk before I even got to start the game.

F.E.A.R offers what alot of games don't in the sense that there is more than one aspect to the games setup. There is of course the gun fights and the running around frantically killing replica soldiers and using your slow mo ability to gain the upperhand whilst gratefully enjoying the sound of their screams. This game also offers and intriguing storyline that has kept me a part of the series the entire way through including the two expansions that followed F.E.A.R 1.

Unlike alot of FPS games F.E.A.R gives you chills and thrills throughout whilst still keeping a very classical gameplay style for a first person shooter. In normal difficulty there are times of challenge but nothing too overwhelming to make you stop wanting to play. However, you can always turn up the difficulty to full if you enjoy being slaughtered.

The story parts of the game make delving deeper into the vault intriguing whilst keeping you on your toes as you are never sure what to expect next. Characters introduced in this game are important in games later on mainly focusing on Pointman, Paxton Fettel and the infamous Alma.

F.E.A.R is probably my favourite game of all time due to the creepy story the unfolds whilst playing. Never have I played a game that has kept me thinking more and more about the disturbing concepts that are placed forward. Whilst F.E.A.R 1 is alot more exciting and fun to play than the following expansions Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate, it is a very solid starting point to what becomes a very enjoyable series.
