FEAR with most fun removed.

User Rating: 7 | F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate PC
EDIT: below you can read the original review I wrote, with the original review title. Most points are still valid, but I recently replayed all 3 FEAR 1 games and I guess I was too tough with FEAR Perseus mandate giving it a score of 5. Now I changed it to 7. Actually it is not a bad game per se, but it became just an ordinary shooter, AI is worse, but probably not as crappy as I thought before. The overall feel is of a dull, not so fun game. Paranormal and scary stuff is almost not present or done in a worse way, enemies constantly shoot into the walls and not at you, all boring parts of earlier FEAR games are collected now in one place here, colors are washed out and graphics are worse, new weapons are not interesting and enemies are not fun to fight with, music is not that good and does not create any real suspense, even though some of the music is taken from the previous games. It is indeed a totally unnecessary expansion and a step down in comparison to excellent 2 first FEAR games. But if you think of Perseus mandate as a separate non-FEAR game, it is quite OK to play.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Take a piece of crap, shape it like a candy and call it FEAR Perseus Mandate.

I loved the first FEAR. It was truly great. But it got repetitive in the end. I also liked FEAR Extraction point, it got even more repetitive but it was still the same great game, even if made by another team. I wanted to like FEAR Perseus mandate, even if it got really really dull and repetitive. But I could not because it was not really FEAR. If you begin to play, at first all seems like in the previous games - weapons, enemies, gameplay. But after a while you feel that all of this is not really what you used to play. And I cannot even explain exactly what it was, but everything felt a bit wrong. And this tiny little bit ruined everything. Plus add all the same dark corridors and offices again and again. Oh, yes, I forgot about the AI. This time it is crap, I mean total crap. At least in comparison to what you expected from other FEAR games. If you compare to other games, may be AI is OK, but it is not FEAR. If you have not played the original FEAR, you will probably like Perseus mandate. But in this case I would recommend to play the original instead. But if you have played the first two FEAR games, you will feel that something is very wrong with the third one. I wish I could pinpoint some specific bad issues, but then I would need to list everything in the game and also it was an overall feel of a different and much worse game.
