Great mechanics, insane characters.

Far Cry 3 nails some things very well. Perhaps better than any other game to date you can scale obstacles in first person, vault over low walls, climb ledges, swim and dive, go from sprint into a power slide. There's a first person cover system. There's a wide array of (unlockable) take-down skills that seem to come straight out of Splinter Cell. Commandeer jet-ski's, hang-gliders, quads, trucks, boats. For the most part it works smoothly and naturally. Every first person shooter should be like this, dammit!

Unfortunately there's a lot not to like, especially when it comes to the story and characters. Your friends are a bunch of pricks. At some point you get some devastating news, and your irritated girlfriend goes like: "What's WRONG?!??". Like she can't believe the cry-baby standing in front of her. While you were off saving people from slavers she's been working on a cross. Made of two twigs. How awesome is that? Your other friend's response? "Yeah..... Well.... My PARENTS were overbearing and protective".

Seriously? With friends like these, who needs Vaas? I wanted to shoot these bums more than him for crying out loud. You can't.

It's equally rediculous that boss fights are silly quick time events that basically destroy any suspense you might have had about them.
