I played this game some time ago so some opinions might be blown a little out of proportion... This said, I must say that FEAR and FEAR 2 was for me like discovering that earth is not flat. Cause previous FEARs games was the most exciting adventures I took in history of FPS (of course Half-Live doesn't count here!). This games had everything atmosphere, great shooting sequences, amazing story... It all was of the highest quality!
Then some fool decided he will make some crappy game and call it FEAR 3. DO NOT LET THE TITLE FOOL YOU! This is not FEAR game. It contains the same basic mechanics, and some hazy connection to original story, but do not expect this game to make you FEAR anything but that your yawning will wake up the kids.
This game is not terrible. Comparing to campaigns such well selling titles as CoD 3(BO) or BF3, this one is actually not that bad as it is much more challenging and shooting areas are much better designed. BUT. But it is not a FEAR game: element of surprise and horror is taken out. I felt very little connection to the main character so I was only scared once or twice in the whole game which is not that bad when considering the fact that game designers designed very few "scared" moments. So first of this game have no atmosphere. Just "kill them all" kind of game.
Second thing is visuals. I remember that first FEARs had some very nice technical touches, that made you appreciate designers effort to make the whole world feel real and consistent. Here we have almost exactly the same graphics as in FEAR 2... let me just point out that FEAR 2 was released two years earlier than FEAR 3. Graphics is not all. Sure. But they could at least come up with some good looking effects... But because story is so weak, graphics actually doesn't make that big of a difference.
Controls are ok. Nothing to screw up here. There are very, very few FPSs where I could point out controls issues.
MP was dead after about a year from release date. That sucks. Really. Specially that some modes where pretty cool but in total MP was unable to keep me interested.
This is not bad FPS, terrible FEAR continuance... In my opinion it's better than CoD:BO and CoD3. But still if you looking for better than average entertainment, be aware that this game is rather average.
