Great game gone horribly wrong...

Although the concept of space and galactic MMO's has been around a long time, there are relatively few that have worked out well this is just one more that fails to deliver..

1. The interface. The menu driven interface is simple enough, although it can get quite annoying at times, trying to click on an object in space seems to work at random, depending on where you click the object. Stargates for instance... Click one end, it works, click the other, doesnt work. This can be especially frustrating as it can give an opponent a few critical seconds to blow you to peices.

2. The penalty for death. In no other MMO that i've ever played has the pentalty for getting blown to bits been quite so severe (Especially in the "Safe" areas of the game). You can lose months of play time to simple lag, or other players exploiting the system for their amusement. EvE does have a reimbursment section, but good luck getting that to work in a timely fashion.

3. The complexity, Love it or hate it, EvE can be incredibly complex at times. For instance, there are several dozen skills to learn as they affect industry (Building things) and science, (Research, effeciency, and development.) And thats just the R&D side, Then there's the galactic market, wherein your free to build, sell, trade, buy, make hedge bets, ect... It's a great learning tool for a prospective stockbroker or marketing whiz. Of course, on the flip side, if your content to sit around and ignore this aspect, you can do that too.

4. The game engine itself... Horrible.. We've all played games where objects have HPS, and take DMG... So how would you feel if you played a game where taking 1800 dmg will kill you when you've got 4500 hps? Yeah.. Happened to me before.. Not only that, but certian skills and modules that should affect abilities as theyre described dont work, have not worked for the year that i've been playing, and have not even recieved the courtsey of an updated item description.

5. The flight engine... This is a space game.. You should be allowed to play it with a joystick and race around the galaxy dodging asteroids and flying through the tight spaces in the stations, doing loops and barrel rolls untill your so dizzy you fall out of your chair right? Eh, apparently wrong... You double, triple or single click a point on your screen at random and your ship ponderously takes off in that direction like a cow that decided to move to a new spot on the pasture.

6. The lackluster response of the developers. Come on guys, there's bugs that have been in the game for over a year, sure they might be minor, but thats no reason not to fix them... You overinform the players of every possible aspect on every item, and then end up getting the information wrong? As in, the screen for a torpedo shows that it does 800 dmg with all your skills, modules, abilities, and extra effects, then when it lands on a target it hits for 1100 damage? Geez.... Math much?

7. The free content updates and expansions... In this aspect EvE does a great job. There have been tons of expansions and new content added to the game. No other MMO has added this much to any of their games without charging extra for it. The only drawback, is that every update, there's also new bugs and exploits that get added and then dont get fixed in a timely fashion, if ever...

In summary, EvE could have been so much better, its not EvEn funny. With just a little more thought, and a development team that actually fixed issues instead of just adding content and creating new ones, EvE really could have been the ultimate MMO.
