Perfect for the kind of game it is

1C Has quickly become one of my favorite alternate game companies. Alternate as in when I want to play strategy games made more for adults that like taking time to think through their actions like a fine game of chess rather than constantly having to be moving and reacting in real time.
Every 1C game is extremely well thought out and refined into a very complete, stable, and often very challenging game. Elven Legacy is no exception with every move having to be carefully considered and the way the missions are constructed it forces you to come up with a wide variety of ways to complete each one.
This is a game similar to Panzer General in that each side has armies to move during their turn. Each unit can gain experience and level up and be kept throughout the game if it doesnt die so you really develop attachment for every unit and you can even name them unique names to quickly identify ones you've given special abilities too because every level you can choose new abilities like to get bonuses in woods or on hilltops. To be able to cross Water quickly, to shoot farther, etc. There are are alot of spells to learn too which can be very powerful and look great. My main mage has around 12 spells now. Theres flying units and ground units and artifacts too you can find around the map. Sometimes npcs will join you as well. Every match has a limit of turns though to finish in Gold, Silver, or Bronze place. Depending on how fast you complete a mission, you get more bonus gold, or even items or bonus units. Also you can buy new units between missions, and you can reinforce your armies during battles too with reserve units in your pool.

Oh and there's a great story to go along from mission to mission with in-engine cut scenes, good voice acting, and nice effects and use of the npcs. Its kinda like the ones in Warcraft III but not as great. This game is a blast, after playing Fantasy Heroes, I was wanting more and this is exactly like that but its got more spells a bit more fx, and it forces you to come up with some pretty new creative strategies to complete each mission differently.

Other great games from 1C: Men of War, King's Bounty, and Fantasy Wars. For those that miss turn based games that you really have to think hard to make it through. This is a game to love and cherish. Oh also you can play this Multiplayer but I haven't tried to yet. But I look forward to it. Serious tactics against another live player will be quite intense. It even has Hot Seat multiplayer which is almost unheard of today.
