Great old-school 4X RPG/Strategy Game

User Rating: 9 | Elemental: War of Magic PC
First, I'll grant there have been some technical difficulties at the outset of this game. That does detract somewhat from the initial experience. That said, however, the game itself is great. It's been ages since I've seen a game with this level of complexity, or that encourages player modification as much (with the possible exception of Spore on that last point).

This game seems like a cross between Civ, Age of Wonders, Master of Magic, and Heroes of Might and Magic, with some deeper RPG aspects tossed on top of those. The gameplay I've experienced so far takes a LOT of getting used to - the learning curve is very steep - but it's fun and involved.

If you're looking for something that brings you back to the old-school rpg/strategy hybrids, this is the game for you. It's designed for a very particular kind of gamer - the kind that likes something vastly complex and requires a lot of time to learn fully. If you're looking for something simple and easily accessible to your average player, put down the game, walk away slowly, and go back to your RTS. Otherwise, give Elemental a try.
