User Rating: 8.9 | Shin Sangoku Musou 4 Empires PS2
Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires is the latest in a long series by Koei and tries to capture 100 years of ancient China into a single series of events and battles. Based on the vast epic, Three Kingdoms, DW5E contains most of the main characters, regardless of narrative timeline or placement. As a casual gamer in this genre, I was genuinely excited to see this game in the bargain bin. Having read the story, I was happy to see the characters I had grown to love, all in the one game. Graphics: 9/10
Some fine battle scenes are handled well with only some mapping problems near the unmoveable scenery. I was playing on the PS2, and the frame rate was quite fast. Fine detail and character composition made the game all the more enjoyable.

Sound: 9/10
I have not played the other games, but I was pleased with the combat sounds and voice characterisations. The music was the most surprising for me. Running around ancient China to the tunes of prog rock was fun. Gameplay: 9/10
Empire mode is definitely the best way to play this game. Start in any number of province and controlling its general will get you started. Assigning delegates or consulting your generals can help improve your defence, armed forces, quality of life for the population or any number of things. There is so much to do that you never have enough time to do what you want. Wise choices must be made!

Conquest is the name of the game, but watch your back. You can build your army and invade neighbouring nations, but someone may come through your back door and invade you at the same time. The battles get repetitive after a while but searching for the right mix of officers and orders make between battle-time interesting.

Conclusion:
Whether a hardcore gamer, casual passerby, a fan of the story or a novice of the novel. This game is definitely recommended for those with some time to kill... and invade.
