Look Ma, no touch screen!

It's amazing to think that some DS game developers and distributers appear to think that we the gaming public are dull witted and uninformed. We have all seen boooring games and movie-tie-in releases designed to only make a buck. And we have also seen, sadly, many DS game releases that fall well below the bar of what DS was intented to do. It has a microphone, wireless access, touch screen, video capabilities.. I'm only stating what we all know is obvious.

So, Dungeon Explorer is released. And I had to look twice, no three times, to make sure that I didn't buy a GBA game by accident. Nope, this is DS sadly. And playing it, you'll realize that this is very much a GBA game with the top screen being used for a handy-esque map or inventory look-up etc.

There is no touch screen usage. The control pad movements are very choppy. The battle mechanics are frustrating at times. The monsters range from wandering stupid to "where the hell did that come from??".

Not to be completely mean, this game would have been a good GBA dungeon crawler. A good upgrade character system and a loosely followed story-line. But this is a DS game, which the distributor charging DS prices. Very sad.

So, unless you MUST HAVE another dungeon crawler game in your DS collection, you may be disappointed with this game. Cuz honestly, they could have done sooooo much more with the DS features to make this game feel like you bought in 2008 and not 2001.

Oh well.
