If you like shooters Duke Nukem for the 64 is pretty good but doesn't quite deliver like the PC counterpart

User Rating: 7.4 | Duke Nukem 64 N64
Duke Nukem for the 64 is a good translation from the PC version but does lack in a few areas which don't affect gameplay too much but are still noticable if you are a fan of the Duke Nukem 3D installment from 3D Realms. Duke Nukem returns in this game in a new 3D based layout compared to his 2D days of side scrolling action and this game takes that step into controversial jokes that set it apart from most shooters at the time but many would follow soon. Personally this is one great shooter and a must have in my opinion. You play as a beefed up Arnold Schwarzenegger looking character with a flat top blonde do in a mission to take back Earth's woman and save them from an alien invasion. That just sets the story, so you know somewhat to expect some jokes out of this. Cops are alien Pigs with shotguns, there's flying lizards with beams and machine guns and alot of other enemies. There's alot of funny jokes where you'll come to a point an he'll utter out a line that just makes you chuckle or say I can't believe they said that. But it all makes for fun. The Graphics seemed to been downgraded from the PC which is sometimes sluggish when moving fast and Multiplayer of course slows down the game, but it's a really cool feature they put in for you to be able to play againts bots for the first time oppose to te PC where you needed to be online for this. They removed mirrors and things like that, that I gues the N64 could not handle. They toned down some of the crude and visual humor such as strippers which were removed and minor things here and there. Certain textures were replace with others and for the most part I to reach a larger audience most of the witty things said were removed but it's still enough to hold you down. You get an arsenal of good weapons from normal to alien which are cool to use and some extra weapons not contained on te PC version but nothing really amazing is added. The guns are given new layout textures but all enemies remain the same for the most part just more block like. There's alot of action an explosions and for it's time it's just jam packed with different enviroments, themes, settings, and more. It's very user friendly to play however the Nintendo 64 controller does take some getting used to because there are so many functions and layouts are not customizable but presets so you have to choose. It is still a challenging game depending on the difficulty and very fun, but if you have a computer it's better off there unless you want multiplayer because that does add to a good point and makes the decision feel more like a decision instead of a grand slam for the PC.
