DRIV3R Review By Daendyr19

Reflections' new improved driver has changed.
In this game you can have guns, get into the buildings... It has changed a lot. DRIV3R isn't supposed to be like Grand Theft Auto, The Getaway, or True Crime. It's a title designed to resemble a Hollywood car chase movie. It's about the hunt, the getaway, and the act of pursuit. You know, it's the kind of game where your blood runs hot, your car wheels screech and smoke, civilians scramble for their lives, and property damage reaches an all-time high.

now let's see....

Presentation - 7.0

DRIV3R starts off well. It's presented with a terrific looking CG intro that sets up a deadly shootout which appears to be a final confrontation of sorts. The idea here being that, like a Quentin Tarantino film, Reflections would start at the end, giving you a premonition of what's to come and then start at the beginning. Only it's a lot less complicated than that. The CG throughout the game is technically excellent, showing off good character motion and presenting a story that seems like its significant to the game. Similar to many action movies, however, the story isn't that good.

Graphics - 6.5

On both systems, you'll see aliasing, shimmering and pop-in, but the excellent lighting and shadowing and the great particle system make up for it, mostly.

Sound - 7.5

The voice acting is superb, despite the boring dialog and story. The rock-heavy music is better than average. The soundtracks are good too.

Gameplay - 5.0

Simple levels are made difficult due to poor execution, mission designs are the same as before, with a few exceptions, and the "open" design hasn't helped make the game any more fun. Bad shooting and aiming get's it even worse. While escaping from police, they always seem to cach - up with you. There is a few exciting places to go and *Timmy guy also adds some more fun. (if you don't know who Timmy guy is read the bottom)
The Free roam option is good too.
The AI is awful though.

Lasting Appeal - 5.0

What you'll do is replay the same level over and over again, despite the relative ease of the levels. The mini-games might be more fun, though they're all very familiar. The 'replay' option is exciting too. It allows you to replay how you drived and what you did in a mission/free roam.

Overall - 6.2
Fair

* The guy who is hiding in the free roam mode. You have to find him and kill him in all 3 cities. There are 10 of them in each city.
