A must own Gameboy Color game

User Rating: 9 | Dragon Quest III GBC
Dragon Warrior III is the model that every publisher should review when remaking one of their own games. Enix took an already good game, and turned it into something that is no less than a masterpiece.

The story of Dragon Warrior III is nothing new. A hero of destiny and a group of teammates travel the world seeking an evil ruler who is bent on destroying the world. On your quest you will recover stolen treasures, save kingdoms, and learn the legacy of your father, a hero of great reknown. Despite the generic plot, the game does a good job of filling the game with interesting side stories that your party will come across on it's journey to save the world.

The battle system is typical random encounter - turn based RPG, and is where the real meat of the game will be found. When forming your party you can pick from 9 character classes, each of whom will have special abilities for battle. Depending on how well you balance your party you will easily go through the game or struggle througout. It's also worth mentioning that while the game does have random encounters, the rate is fairly low and you won't often feel bogged down by it. Experience and gold is generously given so level grinding is also not too much of a concern.

As far as graphics and sound go, they're okay. Dragon Warrior games were always more about the battle and strategy rather than the look and sound. The music is simple but catchy. Graphics for the most part are average, although in battle the monsters now have animated attacks which all look very good.

For those who played the original, the remake is absolutely worth getting. New items are everywhere to be found. Extra bonus dungeons are available upon completion of the game. The Theif, a new character class, is availble for your party. And for those who never picked up the game before, all I can say is that you're in for a real treat.
