The pumped up version of Doom 3 is a blast to play even in spite of its age.
First off, lets get into what's here. You get all three Dooms along with the expansions for all of them. This right here is many hours of entertainment. All versions have trophy support though the first two have a fairly limited trophy set. The trophies can be quite difficult to obtain so trophy hunters will have a real challenge.
Next, let's get to what is different. Doom 3 is a nearly 10 year old game, so it hasn't aged accordingly. More off, were looking at graphics somewhere in between PS2 and PS3 quality. It's really not bad, but don't come into this game thinking you're getting something cutting edge. You're not. This is more about nostalgia than groundbreaking.
What is nice about the collection is the 3D support for Doom 3. As an avid fan of 3D games and movies, Doom 3 has excellent 3D support. However, the set-up is not the typical depth level, but something more akin to determining your dominant eye and going from there. It takes a little longer to figure out, but the results are well worth it. Enemies leaping at you in 3D is enough to really ratchet up the tension that the game was known for.
If there is something I'm disappointed with, it's the lack of cheats. Doom was known for this in its day. Of course, these aren't necessary to enjoy the game, but it was something I remember fondly. How else will you manage to see the head behind the wall in Doom 2?
Other than that, Doom 3 is a tremendous value for those who enjoy the game. Bear in mind, this is for people who enjoy the Doom series, not someone looking for the latest FPS game. You'll be better suited for Call of Duty or Halo if that is your thing. At $40, I think Doom 3: BFG Edition is a great purchase.
The Good: Excellent 3D support, all three games and expansions in one package, visually very smooth.
The Bad: Lacks good old fashioned cheat codes, not for the average FPS fan.
