A 1993 classic on GBA. Prepare a place in your library for Doom!

User Rating: 8.5 | DOOM GBA
We didn’t invent anything. 3D FPS, variety of guns, life packs, armors, items on the ground, progression map, all of that was first seen in 1993 with Doom first of the series. Even though the very first introduction of 3D FPS belongs to Wolfenstein, Doom created the revolution of the genre and was technologically ahead of its time. So it is with delight that we receive this classic on GBA, it’s worth checking it out even for a simple game history lesson. At first sight, Doom GBA is well-adapted from 1993 PC version. Everything is there to please the players: variety of old monsters, bunch of guns like the countless time copied plasma gun, and 24 maps plus bonus. Only two differences noticeable from the PC version, two monsters have been removed and the corpses don’t stay one the ground anymore. Graphically the game is identical to the PC version. Nostalgic of Doom will be pleased but newest players might find it old school, but whatever it’s what made Doom it’s charm  Though some passages remain a bit dark but you may change the brightness in option. The gameplay is surprisingly good. You use the cross to move forward/backward and to turn, and L/R to move sideward. Though, if you don’t feel comfortable with those settings you may as well change them in option. Last but not least, players of 1993 version know it, Doom is short. Each level is finished between 1 to 10 minutes. Fortunately the game is so enjoyable that as soon as you finish the game you feel like playing it again on one of the four levels of difficulty proposed and finding all secrets of the game. Note multiplayer via link cable is available. Finally since 1993 Doom didn’t lose its appeal. It would be a pity to miss out the opportunity to play such a classic and not to add it to your library!
