Doodle Jump has been hovering in the "most popular" section of the app store for months, and it's not surprising. This little 59p platformer is a real steal, and addictive to boot! The aim of the game is to bounce as high as you can up a series of floating platforms, controlling the sideways movement of your character with intuitive tilt controls. This simple premise is built on by the addition of bounce-enhancing power ups (propeller hat, spring boots, jetpack etc.), and hazards such as black holes.
Brilliantly, the game also records your progress (and adds the progress of other players) by adding lines to the graph-paper backdrop at the heights that you've reached. This gives you a physical goal to aim for, rather than just a point score, as you can see when you've passed your high score without looking away from your character. All in all, the great implementation of the tilt controls, and the addictive gameplay make this a must-have.
