This game has good intentions but misses the mark in a number of ways.

User Rating: 5 | Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time PC
The concept behind this game is somewhat neat and could have been used to make a good game. Unfortunately, the game really lacks a sense of purpose and direction.

Gameplay: 2/5
+ The main focus on the gameplay involves you collecting objects in your Sack and attaching them together to make new vehicles. This sounds interesting but soon becomes very frustrating. Trying to actually build a functional vehicle that will get you through the end of the level is extremely clumsy and if you accidentally place something in the wrong spot then it might fall apart you might end up wasting countless minutes trying to rebuild your vehicle. Then, once you test it out you'll most likely encounter a hazard and it will fall apart again. If there was a feature where you could "glue" the parts together so that they won't individually fall apart when you moved them around it would be much more helpful. Regardless, you are able to rewind time at any point throughout the level. Without this feature the game would be a complete disaster so thankfully you can always revert back to some time when you were still alive. The game is really challenging and it takes a long time before you actually get the hang of it. Some of the puzzles are clever and fun, but a lot of times there are too many hazards in the way. I would much rather build myself a powerful vehicle and blast through the enemy robots instead of building a tiny vehicle that can fly through a narrow gap. A few other annoyances are the fact that your character dies way too easily (especially when falling from a short drop) and has a hard time walking over objects. If you want to get around something you have to stumble up against the object and attempt to climb it. This wastes time and leaves me wondering why the developers couldn't just put in a jump button. Still, the game has an interesting concept, playing off the ability to "invent" different vehicles to guide you through the level. If only the gameplay were more structured and less cumbersome then it would be a lot more fun.

Story/Presentation: 2/5
+ The story is awful. It starts, it stagnates, it ends. It's real shallow and the worst part is once you complete the last level you're back to where you started. There's no climax, there's no resolution. It felt so disappointing and unrewarding to actually beat the game. The one good thing that I did like was the banter that Doc Clock shared with his Sack. It was simple humor but it managed to keep me slightly entertained, which was nice considering the rest of the game managed to do the complete opposite.

Graphics: 1/5
+ I actually have some big problems with the art style of this game. First of all it has the art style of a game geared towards younger kids. My first impression was "oh, this is probably a children's puzzle game." After attempting the levels I realized how hard the game actually is and involves a keen sense of physics in order to overcome the obstacles. Which left me confused. Who exactly is this game intended for? The graphics pointed towards a younger audience, while the challenging gameplay pointed towards an older audience. This is a huge conflict and I believe that the art style should reinforce the game not confuse its intentions. The second major problem is that the distinction between usable objects and objects in the background is virtually nonexistent. It's hard to tell what you are able to pick up and use (and is important to the gameplay) and what is just a random pile of junk that is part of the background. This distracts the user and adds even more confusion when you're going through the level. The background could definitely have been toned down so that the objects you use in the game would have been highlighted. Definitely a poor design decision.

Value: 2/5
+ This game really didn't feel worth the money. I got it as part of an indie pack on Steam so thankfully I don't feel cheated too much. $10 is way too much to ask for this game considering all the problems in it. By the end I really was unsatisfied and glad I was finished playing. I managed to get around 5 hours out of it and that was after spending a lot of time replaying some real annoying parts of the levels. It does have some achievements and secrets that encourage you to go back, but the rest of the game screams for you not to return.
