Considering this review is written so longer after this game was first released should tell you something...

User Rating: 9.3 | Dino Crisis 2 PS
I bet you're one of those people who thinks that graphic are needed for the best quality survival horror... well even so notice that most of this genre want to hold somewhat a kind of "grittyness" that adds to the surreal or darkened atmopshere, well in the case of Dino Crisis 2 its all the same.

Graphic
Despite just said they WILL, I repeat from a non bias stand point, WILL look outdated... I blind man could see that but does that account for a bad game? No. Even so with the fixed cameras and obvious painted on backdrops, it all adds up to your survial horror experience; crude, twisted and dark. And better yet like me you don't care to much about graphic then this should cause no fuss. Atleast the cut scenes are better, but then again thats the case with most games so is not fair to signal this game out for it.

Sound
This is usally catorgrised into music, effect and acting. Together their great but by themselves their not perfect. The voice acting is mediocre, not great but not dull or cheesy, passable would be the best word. The music is catchy but if you end up spending that long with it you might feel the need to hurt something. The effects on the other hand, frantastic. All the better when you can't see your foe with the mudy footsteps, skretching wail and glass shattering roars from the beast work as good as bread and butter with the explosive cries of your heavy weaponry. Put the last to together and you'll not notice so much.

Gameplay
So even with its outdated graphics and sound why do you ask should this still be good fun? The answer is in the title: Dino Crisis 2! Dino for big mean dinosaurs ready to butcher you horribly, Crisis for s**t hitting the fan which could only mean in game terms an excuse to blow a hole in something and 2 as in twice as much from the last. Even if you've played through it once, knowing whats installed plot wise (which is a hit or miss depending on your taste for this genre), if you're a fan of Resident Evil or Silent Hill then why wouldn't you want to play through it again? On harder difficulties it can be a wild ride. Knowing what weapon to buy from the vast choice to shoot off the grizzy monster... also from a vast choice (well not choice, they come to you hehehe) theres an element of strategy to this already thrilling action game with the odd twist of horror in the mix.

Value
As just said it depends on your taste in the genre but don't stop there, after your play through, whats this? Bonuses! Sweet sweet bonuses where YOU get to play as the dinosaur thrown in to hack it out with your reptile friends. Along with a score system and multiplayer, these alone should hold some of your attention, and thats NOT mentioning the long campaign from before.

Rent or Buy?
Buy... since by todays standards its cheaper than renting your favourite next gen title. HOWEVER, if I was writting this at the time of release up until now I would still say buy, but ONLY if you're into dinosaurs or survival horrors... or both, its a winning combination! After all these years it should be given its worth.
