One of the Best Action Games on PS2 By Far!

User Rating: 9.5 | Devil May Cry 3 PS2
I don't play PS2 all that often, it takes a seat to my Xbox and my Gamecube, but Devil May Cry 3 really caught my attention from day 1. There are a quite a few very solid action games on the PS2, like Shinobi, Jak, Metal Gear Solid 3 and so on, but none really blew the gaming world away so to speak. As far as big action games have gone, Xbox has been the big name, with hits like ninja gaiden, Fable (action/RPG), and so on. Also, GC has had some hits like Super Smash Bros. Melee, The Legend of Zelda, and even Mario. PS2 has thus far been a slight bit behind XBX and GC in the action department, until Devil May Cry 3. DMC3 is a fast paced action game (think ninja gaiden/castlevannia) that puts you in the shoes of Dante, who just so happens to be the biggest bad@ss you will ever meet. Not only does he fight with swords, but he also uses guns, TAKE THAT RYU. Anyways, DMC3 actually takes place before DMC, and it aims at a younger Dante meaning you get to kill way more enemies with style. DMC3 isn't as revolutionary as the original. The sequel to DMC was one of the biggest letdowns in history, so DMC3 goes back to the old school action style that made the original Devil May Cry a hit, and it works out great in the end. If you have never played an action game before, step back, DMC3 will hit you hard and fast. You control Dante at a third person view so you can use melee weapons to your advantage. The camera plays out much like it does in ninja gaiden, meaning that it centers around Dante, and adjusts as he fights. As in all action games, the camera can be a b!tch at times, but once you get used to it, it shouldn't be a problem. Your goal as Dante is to kick some serious @ss, and get beat the hell out of your evil twin. As far as stories go, it’s not the best you will ever hear or see in a game, but who really buys a fast paced action game for the plot anyways? Dante has several ways of disposing of the demons that flock to him. You can use a melee weapons (the huge sword he carries is my personal favorite) and slice and dice some demons, or you can use his trusty pair of pistols, and take your enemies from a slight distance. Although the guns do some serious damage, you will find that about 70% of the time, you will be hacking away with a sword. DMC3 has a 15-20 hour campaign that plays out a lot like a castlevannia game, and has you blasting and slashing your way through assorted demons, people and monsters alike. If you fins that you may have just met your match, you can allow Dante to be overtaken by his inner demons to make him become a super gun wielding, sword slashing, guitar playing red demon of destruction, WAHAHAHAH! Theres just a simple pleasure that comes with being able to beat the hell out of everything in your path. Its certainly not appropriate material for kids, but for those that can play it, its a real kick @ss experience worth playing...maybe even twice through. Presentation: Dante knows hes the man, and the second you begin to play, you will know it to. SCORE: 10/10 Gameplay: Off the wall, fast paced, intense, bloody action that doesn't get boring quickly. SCORE: 9/10 Graphics: Slick and shiny if not perfect. SCORE: 9/10 Sound: Annoying at times, but that’s only 10% of the time, otherwise it’s a knockout. SCORE: 9/10 Tilt: In my opinion, the best action game yet to hit the PS2. SCORE: 10/10 Value: It deserves a runthrough, at least twice. SCORE: 9/10 TOTAL SCORE: 9.5/10 Bottom Line: If you have a PS2, then you have already taken to long to buy this game!
